Convertible Back Window Defroster

Convertible Back Window Defroster
Hey Guys, just wondering if any other owners have experienced the same problem I have. About a week ago (3 days after my warranty expired) one of the defroster cables fell off the back window. Now my rear defroster doesn't work. Is it possible to do a self fix? I'm going into the dealer on monday for a hood replacement but I'm wondering if I can fix it at home. I saw one TSB that could be related to it but not quite sure. Also would the TSB still be covered even though my car is out of warranty?

Exact same thing happened to me. The dealership tried to solder it back on, but it had already fallen back off before I even drove the car out of the service bay. The assistant service manager told me that he'd never seen that solution work before, and that he recommended a new top. You can't buy a new cable by itself. You can't even buy a new rear glass by itself. The convertible top is sold in one piece. I'm going to try to have the dealership give me a new top under warranty.

Was wondering if you ever got this resolved with the dealership? I've been trying to figure out if this is a common problem... just had mine start sparking this past weekend. Turns out the connection came right off the window... like it was a bad solder job. Dealer sent photos off to FMC and they declined warranty repair. It's a 2009 V6 Convertible... I haven't had it two years... not even 14,000 miles on it. They claim an external object hit it and that it was not a warranty defect. The backseat is rarely ever used... and I can't think of anything that could have hit it... if something hit it hard enough to take it off wouldn't there be some sort of scratch on the window? Frustrating as all get out.

On my coupe when one of mine came off , I got some of the special glue for putting them back on. Since one of the posts talks about soldering it back on , then I assume you have a metal tab too it and it should work for you also ...

Thanks for that info... what type of special glue is it? Is this more common than I thought? I think the warranty should cover it... pretty ****-poor photos that were sent off to the Digital Imaging decision group... half of them weren't even in focus!

I had the same thing happen to my 2006 convertible. They tried soldering it at first and within a month it was disconnected again. They ended up replacing it with an Explorer wire and so far it has held.
