Changing fuel filter

How do you disconnect the fuel lines from the filter? The connectors look like they just pull apart but I can't get the lines off the filter.

You have to press down and hold the green areas of the connector, then they will slide right off. I found it helpful to use the flat of a flatblade screwdriver to help.

Seems like I read about relieving pressure in the lines first?

just pop the gas cap and have a bucket under the fuel. It's at the lowest point in the system, so gravity's still going to push everything out of the lines that's already sitting in them.

Pull the fuel pump relay (underhood box, rearmost block in center row), then attempt to crank the car 2-3x.

Put the relay back in when you're done w/ the filter swap.

That's the best way to relieve the pressure. When I changed my filter I couldn't get it to seat until I realized the morons at the dealer gave me the wrong size. Luckily I had another car to drive to get the right one.

I've changed it without releasing anything. It makes some mess but not too bad. Just have a pan to drain into. The relay pull would probably be fine and totally clean.
