I guess I was just paranoid after the previous "smart" charger tried to maintain 14.75 VDC overnight on the battery! I measured the voltage and current when the green LED is on: 13.12 VDC @ 20mA. The current actually fluctuates between 10mA and 30mA. I thought there might be an AC component but the AC current reading was still similar, although my ammeter may not be able to read non-sinusoidal current/voltage. It may just be a square wave "pulse" to prevent sulfation. I did have to make my own wiring harness because I don't like permanently installing the ring terminals. I ended up using small alligator clips with a longer lead so I could make the "BMW" connector attachment underneath the car without having to fish the charger around.
I permanantly installed the harness to my battery. You can't see the ring terminals and I tucked the lead behind the battery when Im not using it. Trust me.. many years of using the battery tender and only seen one go bad.. my father in law uses 2 for his cars too. 365 days a year. hes a believer too. His batteries last many many years now where they used to last 3 years before they had to be replaced
