Another engine tick thread

I recently started getting this loud engine ticking sound. Here it is at idle, both with the engine cold and then with the engine heated up. I am running JBA longtubes and hotrod cams and this started up after I put in some M80 resonators inline with my flomaster AT's. I don't know if it's just the quieter exhaust that made it apparent or if it started now.

My first assumption was a header leak so I installed some percy's gaskets with sprayed copper sealant and some stage 8 bolts but no luck, it started up just as loud.

It gets louder at around 2k rpms and you can hear cold vs. hot idle in the clips

Does this sound like injectors, cam phasers, rockers, or something else? Next I'm trying 5W30 oil in it - I've been reading up on it a lot and it is worth a shot to see if it makes any difference, plus I can see if there's any metal in the oil I drain out.

Mine make a really light tick noise as well, but every one on this forum said that's how the 4.6l 3v sound. I started a thread on it before because it had the same ticking noise my ford 500 had, and I wanted to know if that was just ford, my 500 had 140 thousand miles and my 05 gt has 49 thousand but they make the same noise. Every one on this post said they all have the tick noise. So aside from your normal tick you have another sound as well?

the idle clips don't convey how bad it gets at 2k+ and it does sound like a different noise in that range.

I tracked the general area to the back of the passenger side valve cover with an auto stethoscope and had a perfomance exhaust shop take a listen and eliminate header leaks as a possible cause. Going to take it to my mechanic who does mustangs and knows the 4.6 motors really well.

Seems like someone here awhile back that had a louder tick (than just OHC clickity clack) had a roller on a finger follower fail.
Have you pulled a cam cover and inspected?

EDIT: there's some info and links in this thread that might help...

That was me ... I had been finding small amouts of metal shavings attached to my magnetic drain plug for a couple of oil changes before the noise started. Have you got any metal in your oil ?

Thanks guys I'm going to read up on that thread. I have magnetic metal particles in my oil filter, I just checked it. My mechanic is backed up a few weeks so I will see what I can diagnose and possibly fix on my own.

@05YellowGT

I investigated and there's a damaged and loose follower in there. I plan on replacing the rollers and lash adjusters. Did you have any other damage? Also did you find a cause for the failure in the first place?

I think it was 'MTAS' in here that had a thread similar- he had a bad roller/ caused the lash adjuster to break out of its bore in the head, dont think it was visible until the roller finger follower was removed. On his if i remember correctly, the roller actually cracked in half first, the cam was just pushing on the stamping.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, but I just saw your post. Steeda wasn't sure why the wall collapsed, but when it did it stopped the roller from turning which ate up the lobe on the cam. That was the metal I had been recently getting on my drain plug when I did oil changes. I had almost 100k on the engine, so I had everything replaced on both sides, even though it probably didn't need to to be done. Also instead of putting OEM cams back in, I put the FRPP hot rod cams.

Replaced all the rockers and lash adjusters on both sides and replaced the damaged cam. Put in phaser lockouts to eliminate phasers as a failure point while I was in there. Installed an oil pressure gauge to keep an eye on that oil pump. Did a blackstone analysis and the only high wear metal was steel so no apparent bearing damage.
