2005 V-6 ticking noise front engine

Hi - It's great to be able to ask if someone else has had this noise. It's a tick noise - fairly rapid tick - tick.... Replaced all 6 injectors with new - runs more like when got at 60,000 miles - now has 110,000 - tick still there. Seems to be get louder as time goes on. Changed oil twice - added Rislone once and Marvell Mystery oil once - engine quieter but still the tick. Have mechanics stethoscope - valve cover noise is smooth - there is ticking from injector rail but not as loud as the tick - checked pulleys when spinning as good as possible. Seemed like might be belt tensioner - replaced before - put old tensioner on and still the tick. Took off belt and hand spun all pulleys - all seem fine - no play - doesn't seem to be water pump but possible - water pump spinning good bearing seems ok. Can't find exhaust manifold leak.

Running engine with belt off still hear click. Timing chain guides unless someone has something else to check. Thanks

Thanks - reading all this info says could be timing chain guides. Running engine with belt off - still hear the click. Timing chain guides - dang it - unless someone thinks of something else to check.

20 Year Old Motor at 110K I Would Guess The Chains Are Ready for Some Attention. A Valve Cover Off May Shed Some Light!

Continuing to check and research - tick is probably the rattle of a chain. I can't believe a 2005 would have a timing chain problem like this at 110,000 but whatever....

The Problem Being Plastic Guides After 20 Years of Heat Cycles. My 02 Harley F-150 Supercharged has Had Startup Noise From Worn Guides For A Good Handful of Years But Quickly Goes Away as Pressure Adjusts. It Has 113K. Sometimes it is Just The Years and Sometimes The Miles and Sometimes Both. I Hope You Have a Cheap Fix But Timing Chain Guide Issues Were Fairly Regular At The FORD Dealerships I Worked at Over The Years!

One of These Days The Guides Will Give Up The Ghost on My Truck and I Will Have To Replace But Not Looking Forward To The Process or Cost. Thankfully We Just Use it Around Town These Days So Not Overly Concerned Since it Only Makes The Noise on Initial Start Up!

Best of Luck on The Hunt!

If Anybody Else Has Some Idea's Please Chime In!

Replaced primary chain and tensioner 1995 HD Dyna at 12,000 but used to jump off the line... Been fairly easy on Horse. Thought had researched this motor - thought was more reliable than the 2005 V-8 which is supposed to have a long timing chain. Nothing like a Camry this is for sure. Still can get the front timing chain kit - main seal - decent quality under 200 - plus maybe get water pump. The noise is front - got to be front chain. Noise does seem to go away when moving. Am being nice to my friend the Ace Mechanic. We can do this in his shop fairly easy. Will drive today - maybe noise will be gone - hasn't gone away for couple weeks - actually seems little worse....113 is amazing. The Ace Mechanic has a 1983 CB1000 with almost 90,000 original - of course he maintains it.

Let Us Know How it Goes!

You Got This!

On a Side Note Love The Cb1000. My Best Buds Rode Them Back in The Day. I Had an 83 Gpz 1100 Back Then Along With a Few Other Street Bikes!

Even major work is simpler on a bik.... Bought Cloyes timing chain kit 9-0398SC - only $110 free postage eBay. Everyone says Cloyes is decent - 5 year warranty - supposed be US made. Are cheaper but I find China metal not so great - who knows... Looking into this if just front noise is possible to get by with just replacing front parts. Can't find anyone that says they did the rear chain without removing engine. Lot people are saying they got high mileage on the 4.0L with original chains. Still need gasket kit - maybe water pump. Wanted to buy kit because goes for like $101 to some wanting $300 and more for the same Cloyes kit number. I think got best deal out there. If look around parts are reasonable. It's the labor that is a wipe out... Ace mechanic just swapped a 2000 Lexus engine. Was over there at points and was a huge job. Lexus is another nightmare engine. Probably could pull engine myself but for sure going to be lot easier at my friend's shop. If you don't have decent mechanic skill I would say don't attempt this. One little error and will be disaster. Now I know why I have seen so many parked Mustangs of these years collecting dust. I can't say for sure would never buy another rear timing chain engine but am leaning in this direction. Lot of people have posted on replacing all timing chains but my car runs great except the dang tick. Will be interesting to see just how much work the ace mechanic thinks the engine needs. Going to be several weeks before I update this. Will be back.
