Took a while but I finally made it over...

Dunno if anyone remembered me getting rid of my 98 and 88 Stangs and picking up an 87 GT. Has a 351W, bored .040 over, got a mild cam, and some other fun stuff on it.

I had to rewire a lot of things since it had been converted to carb. Prev owner made a small mess of the wiring, but it's all fixed up now.

I haven't driven it yet due to it having the wrong flywheel installed in it. Had a 302 flywheel in it. Got the new billet steel one in last week and got it installed. Then in the process of reassembly I got sick and it's still sitting in the garage waiting for the tranny to go back in.

But it's coming along. Still thinking of joining RCMC but I'd like to at least get this thing streetable before doing so. Still needs a carb rebuild. After that it's mostly just paint and replacing some interior pieces.

Well, that's where I'm at right now.

Sounds like a great project, curious was the flywheel the 50 oz vs 28oz thing or are there other differences in 302 vs 351? Post up some pics when you can.

Yea. The motor doesn't have hardly any miles on it because of the flywheel being wrong. Also has a new Tremec T5 in it as well.

It had the 50 oz. flywheel from a 302 in it instead of the 28 oz that it has in it now. Had a NASTY vibration in it if you even revved it to 1500 rpms. So instead of risking driving it and slinging it apart, I have let it sit in my garage until funds permitted me to buy the right one.

Of course, I've had some kind of nasty allergies and my eyes have been burning like crazy so I didn't feel like finishing the job. I'm going to stop in tomorrow and pick up the new pressure plate bolts to reinstall that tomorrow night.

I have to work Saturday until 5pm and I'd like to put it back together Saturday night, but so far I've found no one to help me get the tranny back in the car. Had another guy helping remove everything. This was the first time I had ever gotten into any kind of MAJOR mechanical work and was my first attempt at removing a tranny. All in all it went well, so I'm happy.

If I can locate someone to help me get this thing back together I'll have it on the street by next week.

Still have to rewire the power windows, locks, and mirrors, and I need a tach since my stock one doesn't work with the carbureted setup. If anyone knows a way to wire the coil up to the wiring for my stock tach, I'd like to keep it for now. I eventually plan to build a custom gauge panel and replace everything with autometers.

I'd like to get it back together so I can get a guestimate of what kind of power it's putting down. I'd expect to have some decent numbers seeing as how nothing in this motor is stock. I know when I crank it I have scared the neighbors a time or two.

I have one or two pics. Mind you the car is filthy from sitting up (like it matters with peeling paint) and the only engine pics I have are before I cleaned all the dust off it and before cleaning up all the wiring, but I'll post em up for kicks and giggles. If you frequent hsvracing, you have probably seen it a time or two.

Kenny, is there a brace that goes behind this fenderto push it out flush with the tire? It's pulled in a bit at the bottom. I can pull it out by hand, but it seems like there needs to be something there to hold it in place. It's a little loose, so I'm not sure what I need to get it to sit right.

There is a brace, but as I recall it goes from the bumper/fender mating point to the frame rail. kennyg

I am definately missing both of those then on both sides. I was out there today and noticed one hanging down like it was broken in half. Are they expensive to purchase? The car has been in a small collision at some point in time. No damage like my 88 had, so that's good. The front fenders and clip were a different color (red) and it has had a repaint. When the paint chipped it shows really well now.

Got any of those braces lying around by chance?

Hes pretty cheap too. How much you looking to spend on these so i can do some jewing? juing? (however its spelled) down on the price?

Honestly I dunno what they are worth. I think either 50resto.com or mustangsunlimited.com sells the braces, but I have yet to look. Been so busy at work lately and at home that I've kinda stuck it on the back burner.

IF I can round up someone to help me get this tranny in tomorrow and get this project done I can move on to some cosmetics and things like that. Lemme look them up and I'll get back with you pretty quick. Thanks for looking out!

Ok new the brackets from 50resto.com were $20 each. Finally found them. Unfortunately, I can't buy anything else until I send this new flywheel back and get another one. I've taken this this thing to 8 different places looking for pressure plate bolts.

We have tried everything under the sun and the bolts will only go in and make 1 turn. Tried different pitches and everything. So I'm just going to send it back for a new one that is threaded differently. Once that is finished I'm gonna be looking for those braces..
