Time to rebuild an engine...

Okay, the 93 is tired. I think driving 60 miles with no oil pressure may have helped that. It still runs good. But the bottom end is shot. Driving 60 miles with no oil pressure did not help. I can tell the bearings are gone.

So, I need to find a decent machine shop.
All I want is basic machine work.

Hot tank and check the block, bore if needed, galley plugs, freeze plugs, cam bearings, finish hone, check and turn the crank if needed, polish it, and check the rod big ends.

The ported E7 heads are still good. May try to see if someone wants them for $100. My Edelbrock Performer may even bring ~$50.

I plan on keeping the stock 93 cam, seeing if I can trade my 1.6 roller rockers for 1.72 ones, find some GT40 heads, then throw on a Weiand Stealth intake and the 600 Holley I have and stay with the Hooker SuperComps I got.

I figure I can find used GT40 heads for ~$300. Rebuild kit for $300. Intake for $150. Machine work should be $300. Nice little budget build. Still a nice everyday driver that gets decent gas mileage. Then I will have to work on traction considering I have none in first and second is somewhat gone now.

Opinions?

Ive used General Automotive in the past with good results (block prep), I don't know if they are still in business. You may want to up your block/crank/rod prep budget by a hundred dollars, though.

Nope, they are not in business. I also used them with good luck. That is what it cost me two years ago by them.

Hmmm... I want a set of 1.72 rockers for the 1.6 ones. *grins*
Skip, I will keep you in mind when I get to that point.

I used SCH back about 7 years ago. They were under some other management. When I tried them again 6 years ago when I was helping to rebuild a 67, they did great. Then they went downhill under new management.

This is the second time someone mentioned them, though. Perhaps they have turned around.

They helped me fix a 289 head I dropped and broke. Worked out and was reasonably priced.

Roland Machine and Exhaust

I've used Roland Machine and Exhaust here in Hazel Green for both machine work and exhaust. Most recently I had them surface a 200 6 cylinder manifold and they did a great job, charged me $25 labor. I know he's also built quite a few stroker engines. Give Kenny Roland a call at 829-9050.

I had a bad exp with SCH about that same time (6-7 yrs ago), so I have avoided them since. They could certainly have changed for the better in that time, however.
