hey everyone i just decided to keep the blue thing i got and just make it unholy as far as power goes, but still driveable on thursday-sun , so im gonna need a lot of help and advice from everyone. the first thing i have got to do is fix my 5mpg carb problem. POS was a birt track car engine and they bored the jets, and i think they did something else wrong. I found that loud clicking noise, and it would be right by the intake. its a lot easier to show than it is to explain, so hopefully ill be able to show someone on wed what my problem is (well one of the problems). Hopefully knology will get their *** out to my house and fix my internet like they we're supposed to 2days ago, but who knows.

Asa,

Easier to put in new jets than bore ones. If you think it is the jets giving you such terrible MPG, just find what yo uahve and go up two steps and see if it changes. Folks tend to jump straight to the carb when MPG is bad without troubleshooting. First thing I would suspect (if it smells rich) is the power valve.

I went and checked and their are now multiple problems with my carb issue. The exhaust pipe tips are black and i've been told that means it runs rich, and it smells rich, and the electric choke isnt hooked up. There is still that annoying clicking exhaust sounding noise, i've found a small hole by the intake and headers, but i was wondering if it could be it needs a valve job?

Exhaust leaks sound like metallic ticks/taps.

A ticking would not mean a valve job. It can be lots of things. In the valvetrain, you could have a weak lifter, the lash is too loose, or a component has too much wear.

My tap at >2200 RPM was a rod bearing.

I was just wondering about the carb tune, my carb will be going very very far away soon...not any sense in trying to tune the carb that has bored jets.

I guess the best way to find out what my problem is is to let one of the Stang Guru Gods have a listen at it tonight.

Hoss, I used to date Howard Wayne Bentley's daughter when she lived in Vanntown - very foggy backroads coming home late at night back to Huntsville.
