ford dealers are ****ing me off...

Ive been trying to get the cobra fixed. Noticed a leak in the rear differential. Long lewis wont touch the car stating the aftermarket exhaust caused the leak. And they refuse to cover it under the extended warranty. Others have said they have had the same problem and had theirs fixed no problem. Ive been trying all day to get in touch with woody andersons service dept. but can't.

Now ive read on other sites this will cost me around $600+ to have them fix! The whole IRS has to be dropped ect ect. And I'm not even going to attempt it.

Looks like i may have to just patch it up to stop the leak and go on! This is verrry annoying....Im tempted to call ford up and get the money back on the ext. warranty since they dont want to cover anything.

Where is the leak coming from; Pinion, half-shafts or rear cover?

BTW, how can they say with a straight face that an exhaust caused a diff leak?

if it's the diff cover, it's a known problem, and is what caused my BIG problem....

I agree, how can an exhaust system create a rear axle leak?

John Brinkman, Service writer, W.A.F., probably been there longer than anyone and he's a great guy. He's who I brought my customers to when I was a salesman there.

And it is the differential cover that is leaking..off to the right hand lower side.

Probably struck by the ol cracked cover problem. A little wheel hop combined with all that torque in those cars seems to crack the covers. Maybe they think the aftermarket exhaust gives you more power and helps cause the problem - man that is a stretch so they don't have to pay.
Sounds like Woody will take care of you. They do make braces to take some load off the cover. Maybe the new Ford cover is stronger. There is also some hefty aftermarket covers with a hefty price.
It should be safe to drive as long as you haven't lost all that much fluid. No burnouts though.

it is more harsh, but to give you an idea of differences in drag times if that's your thing....my 99 cobra went from a best of 13.99 to a best of 13.3 at the same MPH! however I want to keep the irs....now if this one blows up, I am getting a solid! it all depends on what you like....but personally I like the sure footedness of the IRS especially on a bumpy road, the IRS feels so much more positive in the corners, however I have noticed when you go through a tight corner, it just slides out instead of the tires breaking noise like I got with my solid...I like to know when they are breaking, because to me that means I'm at the limit.
