IRS seal blowout
IRS seal blowout
well I was looking under the 03 the other day and noticed a nice puddle of gear fluid, so I looked at the pumpkin (to make sure it wasn't broken) and I was missing the bottom bolt for the diff cover.....and the seal was hanging out, so out of curiousity would anyone be willing to lend a helping hand on this? I'm gonna order the parts today but I don't know what the torque specs on the diff cover are, or the order. I will have the friction modifier etc the only thing I haven't gotten from germany is my torque wrench. if anyone has experience with IRS's especially the 03-04 ones please let me know. I could use the help. date to be determined. no I'm not driving it.
Thanks
Phil
Thanks

Phil,
I am not familiar with them, but I can easily get torque specs and order. If you could take a pic, I am thinking this is just as easy as draining the fluid, removeing the cover, cleaning, then reinstalling with new seal. The worst part is the smelly FM. That stuff STINKS! Do not store it near the house.
Let me know.

IRS is not as easy as a solid axle, the differential cover is actually bolted to the frame of the IRS, it's a little more complicated from what I understand.....I ordered the parts I need today....just have to wait for them to get here....
actually, I was getting ready to send you a pm....I ordered a bushing kit for my IRS and a billetflow brace as well as new bolts and friction modifier, (should be here by next weekend.) I need to get a fix, I've been down for about a week and I'm getting the itch.
wanna help?
wanna help?
btw, gear fluid has the greatest hanging smell in the world, I parked our truck next to the cobra and went to drive it today (cobra hasn't moved since then) and it STILL stinks. whew.....
ok all the parts should be here by wednesday at the latest, anyone wanna come help me out on post, this weekend? I have a MM kit on the way with a billetflow brace. I have to limp my cobra up there slowly. it's gonna suck. I'm sure by now there is no fluid in there.....gonna have to do like 20 or so.....I have friction modifier on the way as well as those MM bushings on the way for the subframe, the pumpkin and the 14 MM bolts and low profile bolts for the back of the IRS (so I can run some wider meats in the future.) if you want to help post or hit me up in an email to phillip.schamp@us.army.mil or call me 617-0125.
no not a problem....besides I hung you out to dry on basically the same thing.....guys my diff locked up before I got to the craft shop.....so who knows how to rebuild differentials? I'm gonna guess I'm at least in for a new set of gears....
I got you covered bro. I was going to change all the bushings in the IRS and the gear fluid as well
you don't get off that easy.....you can help just change the bushings and put on the billet flow brace with me when the time comes
I'm down for that, Just try and give me some heads up....The wife tends to find things for me to do if I don't get them on the calander about a week and a half ahead of time.
BTW, sorry about the rear end issue.
