So $25K bid from a legitimate bidder would have gotten the car?

that was what i set my reserve at, yes,

i have 2 other people interested, the winner emailed me and told me he wanted to have the car picked up and inspected before he made a payment, i told him that was not going to happen. i need to recieve payment and for it to clear a bank before i release the car.

so he sent an ebay request to cancel the transaction.

Becareful of bank checks and certified checks.

Just because a bank check or certified check clears your bank. It doesnt mean it is good. The counterfiters these days are very good and it can take your bank upto 3 -4 weeks to determine it is a fraud. But they are usually required to clear funds to you in 7 - 10 business days. I cant tell you how many people I see get scammed like this. FYI I am a check cashier in NYC so I have some experience with this stuff. My recomemdation would be to use something like paypal even if it cost more it is much better than having your bank send you a letter a month after the car is gone to tell you that the check was counterfiet.

I literally come across these counterfiet checks at least 5 or 6 times a month. They are very common.

If you do get a bank check make sure it is from a local bank that you know and you can find the number online and call yourself. Never use any numbers that are printed on these checks. They can have some very good setups to convince you there are real.

This is big business for them.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck with your sale.

ya i know, if he wanted to do a bank check i would have required a wire transfer and 1 week to clear, that is the safest way to do it. the wire transfer only has 48 hours to cancel a transfer, so after 1 week i should be in the clear.
