Fuel or ignition?

I'm leaning towards fuel.

I filled up a couple of nights ago at Chevron. 93 octane as usual.

Afterwards when I have the throttle halfway to the floor-to-WOT, it stumbles. And it seems to be getting a little worse now. I changed out my fuel filter, no help. As you know, I'm carb'ed.

I will be troubleshooting this weekend (tomorrow), but is there anything else I should be looking at? The Chevron gas now has Ethanol in it. Since this is half-throttle to WOT, could the Power Valve circuit be having an issue? Stumbling seems to me like the jets are getting uncovered, but...

Please tell me you did not just say that!!! Last time I checked, carbed cars do not have fuel injectors.

On to Ralph, what about you fuel pump? How long ago did you replace it?

Put in a bottle of fuel treatment. Might be a $1 cure, not bad preventive maintenance either. kennyg

Depending on how old your carb is, you could use some carb/fuel injector cleaner.

Dangit. Yes, I forgot to put in the banana peel and beer (with can) into the flux capacitor.

I use Techron a lot. So it has had cleaner run through it all the time. I was getting 20MPG combined with this thing so I figure it may be running lean. I filled up with different gas (8 gallons) and it is still there. I adjusted the float levels and replaced the cap/rotor (they looked like they needed replacing so I thought maybe the carbon tracking may have had it jumping fire, but). Yeah, I am wondering about the fuel pump. I did it about 3 years ago, though. I really need to throw a guage on the line to determine if I am getting 7PSI or not.

I have gone ahead and bought a Holley Trickit and will pull off the front bowl. Take the metering block and clean and spray out with compressed air and replace the PV. Then go from there.

Thanks, guys.

Well, there was not much trash in the carb, although I did not like how the gaskets looked. Regardless, I cleaned up the metering block, blew out all of the passages, replaced the power valve and several gaskets. Since I had replaced the cap and rotor, I decided to check the plugs. Found #5 was caked. Threw in a new set and now my surge is gone.

WooHoo!!!

And my M609 certification came in the mail yesterday. I'm gonna put this puppy back to R12.

Certification? Pfft.

Funny thing is that everyone stockpiled the R12, and then traded in. There's tons of the stuff sitting on people's garage shelves. Still better make sure your system is tight before filling.

I went ahead and bought 6 cans of National. The system is leak-free (all new parts except for condenser and compressor), except for the low-side aluminum quick disconnect. Piece of junk. Plus, I can get the system working really well, but it is still not the same. A friend allowed me to borrow his R12 gauges.

The core temp gets down to 44 while driving (ambient was 88).

But I want stiff nipples.
