Controversial show topic...
OK, I'm sure this may cause some consternation, but here goes...
(First off, I'd like to put in a disclaimer - I realize I have not been that active in the RCMC for a few years, but I have "done my time" in the past including doing our first website, writing the newsletter, show chairman, head judge, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and events coordinator).
In past years, there was always an overall "Best of Show" which was the highest points total in the concours divisions. Since concours cars should be nicer that street or occasionally driven cars, this would naturally be the most original car in the show.
I think is was kind of humorous that Woody Anderson's choice for best of show was a new Shelby GT-500 with a few catalog bought add ons. Try finding NOS or decent original parts for a '60s era Mustang - that's where the effort and time are spent. Anyone can open a catalog and whip out a credit card... The black '69 Mach 1 that was in concours even had a mostly NOS exhaust system (with part numbers still visible on it).
As another disclaimer, I do own a relatively late model car ('93 Cobra), but IMHO having a year old car beat out a concours 40 year old one for best of show honors is just not right.

The judges don't pick those cars, and they probably shouldn't be advertised as "Best of Show". We ask someone from Woody Anderson and Sears to pick their favorite car. They don't know what NOS means, and have no idea what goes into restoring a concours car. The Black Mach1 was awesome, and I hope he wasn't put off by not winning something in addition to his Gold award.
Heck, Hooters pick didn't even win his class.
And why was there no "Race Car" class. Who the heck is in charge around here?

And what's a guy gotta do to get in a Modified class around here? Occasional Driven? I drive PSH every day!
I'm just kidding. Great weather, great turnout, great cars, great show, great time.

ditto ... new cars dont deserve best of... best of needs hours even years of hard work..blood sweat..tears..sleeping in the dog house..yanking your hair out..ect ect..
and uhm..if i may gripe a bit here.. i didnt really care for how the 07/08 stangs didnt get judged.. people automatically voted for a shelby simply cause it was a shelby. I felt really left out. I spent 3 days cleaning on my car and a good 3 days with my dad on installing my seats in the car just for the show. Kinda burst my bubble when we didnt get judged. I didn't think it was really fair. Theres no way us with a GT or 6ers can go against a Shelby even a stock one. Simply cause of the name with the public. Even if our GTs or whatnot are customized. Just my two cents. Still love ya guys though!

I was not trying to imply that I didn't like the show. I thought it was great and it was obvious that Mike and the rest put in a LOT of effort.
The popular vote for the last two years of cars was implemented several years ago and was on the show flyer and entry form I believe. It was implemented because judging brand new cars comes down to who has the least amount of dust on their car... - take 4 or 5 2007-2008 cars with practically zero mileage - how do you pick a winner? Popular vote is used at all Shelby American shows for non concours classes and has been for 20+ years.

My dad and I judged new cars at our local show a couple of years ago. It was neither easy nor fun. Popular Vote is the way to go, but it might be interesting to separate the "tuner" cars from the rest.
The inherent "problem" I have with Mustang shows is that I don't go to a show to see how well someone can clean their car. I go to see:
At local and especially at MCA national shows, modified cars don't get their due either. Of the 500 points a modified Mustang can earn at an MCA show, only 102 are based on modifications. A car can earn 112 points for being clean. For the modified class, modifications should count for at least 40% of the score.

- Originals the way they used to be
- Rare Mustangs
- What modifications people have done

I see what BlueSnake means and I also agree with Brad about the cars. That is why I enter in the car shows that have the age limit. Even though it is still nice to see new cars, they are nothing like what the old cars are.

At the local shows I've been to (ours included), I don't feel like the rare cars get their due. I think there should be a small points allowance for exclusivity. All things being equal, I'd give the edge to a 1964 Pace Car replica over a '64 6-cylinder coupe. Wouldn't you?
The problem with modified cars is that it is a very subjective class with no real standards to go on. As another example, let's use a couple of modified '65 Mustangs as an example. The first one has an Edelbrock intake and carb, very clean and definitely modified from original. The second has a complete set of chromed, 48-IDA Weber carbs and a polished Cobra manifold. More than likely, the second car would score better, even though both are modified in the same area. It just comes down to what the judge likes better, not which is closer to some accepted standard.
