9" rear end
9" rear end
can anyone lead me to someone who can get me or build me a 9" rear end for my 67,
we are going to add a power adder (can you say pshhhh)
8" is still open diff for me to get a good quality 8" diff with gears and new axles i am figuring 1100.00+ i have seen whole 9" for around 1500.00 new. could i get one built for me for less than 1100.00?

$1500-2000 minimum, depending on your options (gear ratio, brakes, trac-loc, detroit locker etc). Check a few of the on line sites and you'll see what I mean. If you can find a used set-up it would be cheaper.
You can get an 8.8 31 spline take off from a late model (S197) or you can build one with a Fox housing and Ranger axles or get custom axles from different sources. Fox is the same width as 65-67 (59.5" I think). The SN95 is 62.5" and the S197 is 65". All of the S197 8.8 have Traction Loc & should have 31 spline. There was a good article in Pop Hot Rodding a while back on this. You can come out about 1/2 as much as the 9" with a rear diff that is just as strong.

can anyone confirm the exact length of the axle, also where can i get someone to weld in th spring perches?
or should i just have a 3 or 4 link welded in?
i can get a used 88-92 fox 8.8 rear end for 150.00
how much for the mounts?
are the u joints the same,
best case a rebuild 65.00 for track lok kit
worst case
new 31 spline dif 240.00
new 31 spline axles 290.00
3.73 gears 150.0

after comparing it might be best to get a good explorer axle or a ranger axle, it is only 1/2 inch wider so only 1/4 inch wider on each side, and i will need to weld in new mounts,
benefits are 31 spline axles, 373 trac lok stock and only about $250.00
negative is i dont have 1/4 inch of wheel well space
rangers are 373 or 410's but 28 spline, some 31 spline
good is it is about 2 inchs narrower that my stock axle. 1 inch each side
this way i could actually tuck my wheels in the fenders

Ranger / Explorer rearends have an offset center section and may cause problems with driveshaft clearance and pinion alignment.. You can use 92(and below) Ranger / Explorer axles in a fox housing however you need two left hand sides or one left hand Ranger one right hand Aerostar. These are 28 spline. The 97 and up Explorer are 31 spline however they are wider. You can have them shortened and new ring grooves cut from Moser, Currie and several others for about $65 per side. If building a 31 spline you would need a center section for a 31 spline (the same 97 and newer Explorer or 2005 and up Mustang). There are people who have added 4 link to a 1st gen Mustang using Fox tubular control arrms, custom brackets and coilovers. You would probably want to add a panhard rod or rear swaybar as well.
You do need to make sure your pinion angle is right whether you are going leaf spring or four link. You should also have a drive shaft made that uses the a pinon flange like the fox or late model.
The CarCraft link is a good writeup on building a stout 8.8. Somewhere I have seen a very good pictorial of an 8.8 install in a 66 conv.
