5.0L Motor For Sale
5.0L Motor For Sale
I just replaced the motor in my '86 GT with a Ford Racing crate motor. So I have the original 302 available for sale. Motor has 55K original mileage and is very clean inside. It's a complete longblock as it sits. There are no issues with it. The horsepower bug hit me was the only problem. Email me for details if serious. Ackman70@aol.com.
I pulled the heads and all look fine. The crosshatch is still present in the cylinders. No signs of bad rings. Heads and valves all look fine.
I'll pull a rod and main cap and peek at the bearings. The pan/block will get cleaned and painted, of course. I can find no reason to pull the cam. I have a new rear main and pilot bushing sitting around. Throw in a one-piece FelPro pan gasket. Clean the pickup screen. Check the play of the timing chain (stretch).
I was thinking of GT40 heads, but I think I have decided to just stick with my ported E7s and 1.6 roller rockers. I need to clay it up and test for piston/valve clearance due to the 86 pistons having no reliefs.
Experience has shown that it will be very close. Most have not had to notch.

just don't take it too high....even just a little clearance but ok...is not always ok......because if you get it up in the RPMs and get any kind of valve float......YIKES! your a smart cookie though, so I'm sure you knew that.
Yeppers.
I am thinking that if I can find the Isky tool, I'll go ahead and flycut "while I am here". The 86 pistons have plenty of material to cut.
And, another route is to pull the pistons out of my 93 block, swap over the rods from the 86, install in the 86. Yet, with the mileage on the 93 and what I did to it, that is not a good idea. Another thought is to just buy new pistons. Then I would have to go with new rings and might as well go with bearings and...
So many routes, so many decisions.... too few beers.

All it really needed was a fresh coat of paint. Clay the heads before you disturb the short block. You may be able to get away without doing anything with the pistons. Glad you got it and enjoy it!
