302

I was looking on Craigslist and found a 302 block for $50. It is from an 87. I know that would mean the engine would come from an EFI car. Could I built it up and just put a carbed intake on it?

Sure. Ive done it several times. You'll need more than the intake, though....front cover, water pump, oil pan/pickup, possibly a distributor w a steel gear (if roller cam equipped), etc

I might get it if I don't get the carb.

i tried to order the carb, your right it lists mfg out of stock, they did not stop making it they just have no cores to build any, i did find 1 listed on carparts.com for 109.00 but it does not ship for 5-7 days and who knows if it will really ship!

if you get a 302 you will need
intake
carb
distributor
exhaust manifolds
motor mounts
timing cover
oil pan

just for basics

I've been running carbed roller blocks for years. Nothing different about them at all. As mentioned, the one big thing to keep in mind is the steel gear for the distributor.

Ken speaketh wisdom. V8 brakes, especially. The I6 suspension/drivetrain stuff is light-duty, not suited for V8 use.

Ken,
Even with your extensive list of needed build-up parts, your engine won't run......you forgot to add gasoline!

I think I am going to have to get a 2v. I'm not paying 300-500 for a 1v carb.

A Holley 4V is less than $300 from Autozone. Sheesh...

About the same depending on where you buy it from. My dad found one on Ebay and the guy tells you what jets to put in and what adapter to use. 2v carb from the guy is $60, adapter is $68, and I don't know about the jets.

Now that we are doing 2v conversion I was thinking about putting a CAI or something along the lines of that on the mustang.
