100% newb question
Anyone out there built a 300hp 289.
I would like to have 300 hp to the rear wheels. How hard is that with iron heads? What compresion, cam and heads should i use? Please excuse my ignorance on Ford engines.

i`m sure i have old hot rod or car craft issues with buildups of just about any h/p stage one could want .. i will search them and find an issue or two for you to hunt up .. i personally would build a mild 250 horse or so motor then add a 75 horse nitrous kit ..

These days, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to stay with 289 cubes, when you can stroke up to 347+ cubic inches in the same block. You should have no problem with your HP goals with a stroked small block along with the right cam and a little head work.

What do you like? The sound? As LMan, said, it would be undetectable from a visual standpoint. If you have to rebuild anyways, it's nearly free horsepower.

I would go with a stroker kit, You get the added torque from the stroke. However I have heard bad things about the 347's in their stroke/rod ratio, and that the 331 is a better choice.
You would want to verify that though.

302 (289) with stroker crank. Early 347 strokers had oil comsumption problems as the early piston designs had the oil control ring crossing the pin area. Newer ones have redesigned pistons that do away with this desgin problem. A 331 would also be a better choice than a stock 289 if you're rebuilding anyway. There are also roller cam conversions for old non-roller blocks as well.

no one has asked yet " how much you got to spend ? " .. if you up the cubes then you will need aftermarket heads to get the full benifit of more cubes .. size is power but it is also BIG BUCKS .. 1000 bucks freshen up your 289 ... 4000 $ and up to go bigger ..

if you are talking about Forza 2 on XBOX 360 then I suggest you just save up some more credits and get a complete engine upgrade or find someone on xbox live that will sell you one....if you are talking about real life cars then I don't know how to help you

My budget is around 2500-2800 but im doing a little at a time this is not an overnight project its going to take a while because the car has to be taken all the way down.

make friends with some drag racers then and get some of their old stuff as they update .. good ported older iron heads and such .. and the 4 speed will make a less powerful motor seem "funner" than a slush box ..
