Painting CAI raised letters

Has anyone done this to their CAI? I just finished it this weekend. It was quite easy to do, but time consuming.

Touch up paint

I used the following Dupli-Colors:
  • NG FM 306 Cardinal Red
  • NG FM 335 Perfirmance White
  • NG CC 422 Intense Blue Pearl (I know this is a chrysler color but there wasn't a good blue in the Ford colors to choose from. They had a navy color but I figured that wouldn't work.)
When doing this I started with the blue and filled in the oval. You can try and be careful not to get it on the letters but it doesn't really matter because they are being painted over. (You need to make sure that it is completly dry if you are paintin over).
When it was dry I used the cool ball point end to do the lettering to get it started. Then I came back over it with the brush and a stedy hand. Start from the top and work your way down. The Red Racing was done last as that is at the bottom and I didn't want to put my hand in red paint. You can use an Xacto knife it you have a little run off on the white oval or any of the racing letters. Just slice the paint blob at the top and it just peels off. (Don't use a heavy hand.)

If you are ever in the Chicago area and have time to kill, as it take a while with the multiple coats I'd be happy to do it.

Awesome!! and to me, what you did is what our car's are all about. Personalizing them, and doing it yourself!! Some of my mod's may not be perfect, but I did all of them myself. KUDO's. Well Done.

Looks great - update us in 6 months. I would like to see if the colors change with time & heat.

I wonder how it will hold up as well. That area that is painted is the path to the filter. Will dirt collect there? If so, will cleaning ruin the work?
