Thank you for the detailed information.

In this 2004 article for the GT engine, Terry Wagner's comments about this system were sometimes interpreted such that performance was one, among other factors, that were optimized with this set-up.

"I'm real excited about the three-valve head," says Terry Wagner, the Modular V-8/V-10 engine program department manager, and powertrain manager for the new Mustang. "It brings the base 4.6 to a whole new level, and gives 300 hp at a level never offered before." Normally, adding a second intake valve is a good way to kill low-speed performance. In order to maintain velocity, the engineers added the Charge Motion Control valve, which acts in much the same way as the old intake manifold runner controls in the '96-98 four-valve Cobras. Unlike those flaps, which were located at the intake manifold, the CMCV is located at the head and blocks flow to half of the intake valves at light loads. This increased the velocity in the port, which also creates a tumble motion to help control the combustion. At higher loads and higher speeds, the valves open to get maximum airflow.
This article indicates similar information.

The three-valve heads with VCT allowed engine designers to use a higher compression ratio with regular 87-octane gasoline to maximize the energy used by every drop of fuel. Intake runners with active charge motion control valves also shape each combustion event for strong, low-end torque and maximum high-rpm power.
There seems to a little bit of word play when describing the benefits!

Well sort of. Without the VCT and CMCV they wouldn't have been able to achieve the performance they have with the 4.6. It's not that those two increase HP, they allow the designers to better optimize other parameters like combustion ratio, port size, cam timing, spark advance and intake design while the VCT and CMCV help tame the increased emissions. Especially at idle and part throttle.

Engine design is a world of compromise. If you want more at one end, it usually causes problems at the other.

Of course! Suffice it to say that when one talks about the sum of the technology, you get 300hp and 320ft-lb of torque at their respective peaks, wherein the engineering constraints dealing with power, fuel economy, and emissions are more precisely managed.

In "engine technology for dummies" speak, "fun car!"

Again, thanks for the specific references regarding the purpose of the VCT in combination with the CMCV.

Here's a bentley with the engine-turn pattern. Gives an idea of what it looks like on a modern car.

I think Ford is making a mistake with this one... the potential light and heat reflection would be loads of fun too. Who's up for some mobile tanning, anybody?

I think the preliminary info on this dash said something like a "gunmetal" finish, which is more of a dark gray-blueish color, and almost a black appearance at times. This could look quite cool if done right. Hard to say what the real thing will look like though.................

I think it will be like the IUP dash...either color...but probably the brite satin, just a pattern like above in it. instead of the carbon fiber pattern.

There has been a 3rd IUP dash choice in CONCEPTS for a while now. Its listed a "Black Dash", and its not the Charcoal Woven one. This may be the dash for the Bullitt. Engine Tured Aluminum in a dark color.

In keeping with the "Bullitt Tradition", I think we'll see a dark finish(on the dash) of some sort on this car. Bright will be out........................

Its not trust me. If it were, then this option code would be on the invoice for a V6. It was something new added this year, as it wasn't on the previous years ordering guide.

Ya, I was hoping for the same thing. I've got some buddies who are going to SEMA and have been given strict instructions to be scouting for the 2008 Bullitt and to send pics back right away!

No spare. That's a nice weight saver...until you bust open the side wall (I've done that). That's a poor decision by Ford. The spare tire on the new Focus is a $60. option. Wonder when all tires will be optional.

My guess is we won't see the car until a week or so before LA. So around the 7th or the 8th of November.
