The decision, if and when it comes, will either be getting an actor who can make funny faces (see N. Cage and his Gone In 60 Seconds masterpiece) and have a computer do the driving or get an actor who can handle a car and take it a notch above the original chase.

Absolutely! Some movies should never be remade! Anyway could you imagine anyone asking the flakes in SF to stage those sort of driving scenes in today's world!?!

Again this was only a rumor but I had heard that the movie wouldn't really be a remake. It was more to bring back the character and persona of Frank Bullitt in a modern tale (hopefully including an 05+ or 68 Mustang). I don't really think that would be bad. Kind of like they did with the latest Batman movie. Start from scratch and bring back the good parts.

Can I third that idea? i would definately see that movie as well. Do you thnk Jason Statham is getting type cast these days or do you think that's just what he enjoys making?

maybe a little of both. If he is getting type cast, he must enjoy it. i saw both transporters (havent seen that new one about adrenalin or w.e, but it looked good) and i think he enjoys it. if he's able to do that good of a job, he must to some extent, dontcha think?

he would definately get the job done.

that movie would be an instant hit

I believe this Bullitt movie should NOT be a remake(since that is too easy),
but a continuation...In the new film Ms.Bissett could reprise her character, but now we see her as Franks widow and mother to son 'A.J.' played by Matt Damon. Franks younger brother, played by Kevin Costner
is just released from prison and is on the hunt for Det. Frank Bullitts killer. The police chief is played by Robert Duvall(the cab driver in the original Bullitt)...Duvall plays a great detective as evidenced by the 1992 movie 'Falling Down'...In addition, Duvall and Costner have made films together in the past, and work well together...Lastly we see Robert Vaughn who
reprise his role as 'Walter Chalmlers', who is now on the other side of the law, in charge of an auto theft ring....Vaughn plays the cunning 'bad-guy'
role so well, you always know he is up to something!...I'm sure it would be a pleasure for the surviving cast to reprise their roles.

The son of Frank after he relaxed took some time off left his shield at home and then had a son, that came back to dig up something mysterious that related as to how his father went missing and all he had was his Mustang.

'Chasing The Bullitt'...

We should all rally together and get word of this film idea to Hollywood!
It would be alot more fun see a movie that plays off of what happened in the first film, rather than simply watching a remake.
I bet if Robert Duvall and/or Kevin Costner got word of this, they'd be able to get the ball rolling.

From State's Attorney to leader of auto theft ring, huh?

You might want to go back to the drawing board for that plot point.

We all know Chalmlers was dirty; he'd make a deal with the devil
if he knew he could profit from it!

We should all try to get word of this to the Hollywood big-wigs.
Evidently, there is this annual "Bullitt Convention" in S.F.
I heard that many of the surviving cast will even be making
guest appearances there. If Duvall or Costner got wind of this
idea, I bet they'd be able to get the ball rolling. What a fantastic
movie this be would be for '08! The Anniversary for the original film.

Only "Bullitt Convention" we are aware of was this years Bullitt Nationals held in san Francisco. I am coordinator for the Bullitt Nationals. There are very few surviving members of the cast. Bisset and Vaughn are about it. Bud Elkins (stunt driver of the Mustang in some scenes and the motorcycle that is layed down near the end of the chase), is alive but not doing well. Doesn't leave his house anymore.

Bullitt Sequel 'Chasing The Bullitt'

I saw Bissett on tv the other night, she still looks great. Vaughn is as good as ever. Robert Duvall played a minor role in the original movie,
as the cab driver("he used alot of change!!") I liked his protrayal as the detective in the Michael Douglas movie 'Falling Down'. This is the kind
of role I'd like to see him play in the Bullitt sequel. In addition, Kevin Costner could be added to the cast. Duvall and Costner recently made a western, and seemed to really work well together. I'm sure Costner's heard the McQueen comparisons in the past, and either loves hearing that, or hates hearing that. I say this because I saw a bio on Burt Reynolds recently, and apparently he DIDN'T like the comparisons between him and the great Marlon Brando!...Go figure.
