2008 Bullitt Buying quandary…
Well,
My wife doesn't think we should spend the money on a new 2008 Bullitt for her new car right now. we were originally going to replace her 1999 sometime in mid to late 2009...
My dealer, I deal directly with the dealership owner, the same Guy I ordered and bought my 2005 F-450 from for $3000 under invoice and my 2008 GT500 for $5000 over MSRP.
I asked him Saturday what his status was for ordering Bullitts, and told him I was trying to convince my wife to get one as her next car.
He told me they were not charging any markup, but we did not discuss my price yet. Since I’m still quite undecided, well my wife is still undecided, this would be her new daily driver.
Get this, he already has an unspoken for Bullitt order in the system. And wait! It is exactly as I would have ordered it. What the heck are the odds :-o ?
UA Black CC
T82 GT Coupe Premium $25104/$27260
With these options
14A - active anti-theft $283/$325
51H - HID Headlamps $457/$525
54B – Bullitt Package $2879/$3310
2 Gal Gas $5.98
FDAF Assessment $420
Destination & Delivery $745
Total Invoice $29893.98 / MSRP $32165
I sure think it would be a great car for her, I know it all seems to be falling into place like it was meant to be...
It’s times like these you gotta ask yourself WHAT WOULD STEVE DO???
So what other options are available with the Bullitt package Mustangs anyway?

Good Question! If I don’t have an answer, the answer should be don’t get one. Well here goes:
Well she is driving a rattle trap high mile car right now that we have decided needs to be replaced soon.
The Idea of having a matched set of same year special edition Black Mustangs is quite appealing. Having two special addition Mustangs we like available in the same year, and the means to get them, all while being just about to replace her car anyway. If we wait a couple more months that’s not a possibility. I am quite certain they aren’t making the Bullitt package in 2009, even if they did, being a different model year, it wouldn’t be the same.
I think the 2005-2008 hard top Mustang is arguably the best looking Mustang ever built. Certainly right up there with the 1965-1968 fastbacks. Steering brakes, suspension and interior wise they are as they should be generations ahead. The styling dry spell between 1970~2005 was a little too long for me. With the oil/energy SNAFU we are in now, 2008 could be another 1971 the last year of factory high power engines for decades. I’m fairly certain I won’t be a new car customer in another 25 years. Besides I personally don’t care for anything I’ve seen change wise in future concept Mustangs.
How’d I do?

One of the hardest things we have to deal with while shopping new cars is the lack of manual transmissions available. You cannot get a new loaded F-150 with a manual transmission, Automatic only! That sucks.
I drive a somewhat rare 2005 F-450 Crew Cab (black of coarse) 4x4 loaded Lariat with a six speed manual transmission. I had to order it that way, you won’t find many with colors other than white, and of them almost every one sitting on a dealer lot is an automatic.
My wife and I both prefer manuals over automatics. She has never even owned a car with an automatic transmission. Long ago, I actually converted a 1971 Torino with an automatic to a toploader 4-speed. Today I would just sell the car and buy a factory manual transmission car. I drive rental cars regularly which allows me to stay very up to date on all of the automatic transmission offerings out there. The first 2005 Mustang I ever drove was a V-6 automatic rental car. I actually hate driving an automatic transmission.
The Marauder needed (and the Crown Victoria needs) a manual transmission option in my opinion. That and not enough horsepower from the factory, are why it did not go over too well. We would have bought one if it had a manual transmission.
One of the big appeals to both of us about the Mustang is the V-8 manual transmission rear wheel drive. If Ford didn’t sell it, we would most certainly be driving a BMW that fits the bill, since most other car makers can’t seem to keep their eye on the performance ball…

That S/C was developed by Trilogy International and is available and has been installed on about 170 Marauders since.
As for the Bullitt, it is far better than what your wife is driving now, do her a favor and just get it. They won't be around after 2008 job2, and really are a bargain, especially if you get one under MSRP.
Well stopped by a different dealer tonight to see if they had a 2008 Mustang GT with a manual transmission that my wife could drive to see what she thinks about it. He did not have one.
I had spoken to him before about my relationship with another local dealer, the one I buy my cars from. He asked me out right, if he ordered a 2008 Bullitt Mustang; would I buy it for $1000~$1500 over invoice? I said well yeah if I get my wife on board, and she decides that she wants a Bullitt as her daily driver and I get to order it to my specification, I would buy it for $1000 over Invoice,. He said I notice you heard $1000 over invoice, and not $1500. I said you wouldn’t have said $1000 if you didn’t mean it.
The wife and I went for a nice cruse in the GT500 later. It was the first time she had driven it. I think she was impressed.
Valentines Day is indeed coming.

Jeff, I absolutely agree! I certainly will talk with my dealership first; I have a very long and very good relationship with both the owner and his GM. “My” Dealer has taken very good care of me. The owner and GM were out of town at some Ford or sales function this weekend (I didn’t ask the receptionist for details). They will be back on Tuesday.
When I talk prices with them at my dealership, we don’t Bu!!**** around, they let me know how low they can go, which is usually pretty d@mn low, and we make a deal. That deal is usually lower than anyone else would go anyway. They know I realize they are in business to make a living and they understand that I don’t want to be taken advantage of. I think anywhere right around $31,000 is a good deal for both of us. After all there is only $ 2271.02 between Invoice and MSRP…
My post was mostly informational, since I haven’t seen too much detailed first hand information on Bullitt pricing.
Thanks Jeff.

Keith, before you jump at this guy's offer (and its a good one, I might add), since you bought so many vehicles from the other place, and he had helped you with price in the past on hard to get vehicles, why don't you go back there, and just tell the owner that you were offered a Bullitt at $1,000 over invoice, and see if he will match it. I think it would be the right thing to do. What do ya say?
Does she like BMWs, in general, as an automotive marque?
Hey Tony,
Well having “Matching” same year Mustangs is part of the appeal. We already do the car show thing together with our friends, many of whom have wives that have and participate with their own cars. My wife having a “Matching” special edition Mustang of her own is a big draw for both of us.
Most of all she likes having a MANUAL transmission that coupled with enough power to get up and go when she steps on it. The transmission thing eliminates almost all American cars. Her biggest reservations about the Mustang are the inability to get simple fairly common creature comfort features, like automatic temperature control.
I myself don’t understand why filling half the trunk with stereo parts is ok but adding possibly no weight and no space loss for such a simple common feature as automatic temperature control can’t be done? I would honestly prefer stereo delete with automatic temperature control. I think Ford is misreading their market here.
We both like much about BMW’s their quality, fit and finish is generally quite high. They are a kick in the butt to drive (that manual transmission thing), and creature comfort features are top notch. I don’t care for the whole persona they resonant, and their pricing (more so in the past), tends to be higher and less flexible than I like, I think on the whole, BMW turns out an above average automobile.
I’m all about high quality and high performance in an unassuming package. Hum, that’s kind of what the Bullit Mustang is all about. No wonder it calls to me.

I see your situation. How does she feel about the premise? Better still, how does she feel about having a second Mustang that is similar in some of the major body lines (but not certain with some styling details, of course) rather than one where the body lines are changed?

shop that price
I went to the biggest Ford dealer in the world, so they say, and they were asking for $5k over sticker. They eventually came down to $1500 over, with a hint that they might be able to get approval for $1k over, but my local dealer was willing to sell me one at sticker that they have on order, either about 2 weeks out or another about 5 weeks out, depending upon what options I wanted.
I went online and checked dealer inventory in LA County and found the option package I wanted at a few dealers, and contacted them online. One internet sales manager responded right away with an offer at $1500 under sticker, and it was an early model with a base price $240 bucks less than the current base price, so I bought it the next day!
Of course, another dealer wanted $2k over sticker, and one idiot asked for $10,000 over sticker!

Good job! It pays to shop around. Some of these dealers really think they have something special and play on our ignorance. They forget that we actually have the upper hand for info-gathering. I'm sure you'll enjoy your car even more now.
