Of course it could. Its two main road blocks are weight and lack of a sports car platform. It matters little which present Mustang model is considered, all of them without exception have the "but" factor. The aftermarket offers improvements, not cures. What offsets the Mustang short comings and makes it worthwhile are its fun and feel good factors.

... maybe Ford reasoned that all those afficionados of the original movie are in their mid-to-late 50's and 60's now and are past-it...
That might be part of it although a more logical conclusion might be Ford understands most Mustang enthusiasts are amatuers fun loving drivers with a small percentage being hard core track oriented.

especially when you compare it to what these same features are going to cost on the 2010 GT's

I'm still loving mine as a DD.

If compared to Ford Racing's upgrade suspension package then it is over hyped. If the comparisson it to that of the Mustang GT's then it is not. The Bullitt's is a happy medium, balanced just not track ready.

As long as you all don't get the idea that I dislike the car...I love it!
Spent 3 hours yesterday swearing as I installed the iTunes adapter from Brandmotion... took me a while to figure out how to unclip the electrical leads from the aircon/heater dials...lol
Tip: leave the fascia screwed-in while you unclip the lower leads...it then took me about 20 minutes to complete and reassemble...

Been there done that. It's easy once you get it figured out.

Tell me about it - just for S**s and giggles I re-did the whole process from start to finish...27 minutes.

Well...I was worried I hadn't plugged one of the radio leads back in right...turns out I had, but the last thing I want is to be kept awake at nights...and that's the kind of thing that would bug me until I checked it...

20 to 30 min is about right. I recently installed an Ipod (Zune) connector on my Sony head unit. Had to remove everything to get to the back of the headunit and install a wiring harness and Ipod (Zune) cable. Put it all back together and I was walking to the house from the garage and realized I had failed to hook up the Heater / AC connectors. Had to pull the top of the console and the 2 side panels again. Took about 10 min. to complete the job. I can now take a radio out of a S197 Mustang in a hurry. I guess practise makes perfect. Oh by the way...Have a great Xmas. Bob

I have to chuckle when people say a certain car isn't enough this or that. All cars miss the mark to some degree. The GT500 doesn't have enough power or the Corvette Z06 doesn't handle good enough. It depends of course what you want to do with the car and there are plenty of aftermarket parts to improve the so-called problem. Believe it or not, the Bullitt was designed primarily as a track car that could be used as a daily driver. Remember Paul Randle stating this next to a California launch site? And the Bullitt is an accomplished achiever delivering a very well balanced package at a bargain price (especially now). I haven't forgotten that one actually has to know how to drive a car to realize exactly what the Bullitt is capable of in stock form. In most cases, people attach this or that part to compensate for their poor driving skills, and that the car now performs "better" with less input (ability) from them as a driver. When you under-drive you under-perform with the car. I don't make excuses for my driving (or lack thereof) ability. It is what it is and that goes for the Bullitt as well, a very well- balanced performance car. There would be no need for seatbelts, traction/stability control, airbags and other safety devices if people knew how to drive...........

Remember most people you just described in reality usually don't own ANY performance car or much else for that matter. If they do own a Mustang, Camaro, old musclecar ect it's actually a crapbucket oilburner with rusted cherry bombs and duct tape racing stripes. Not to mention their "expert" driving ability is about as minimal as possible. Their only exposure to cars are the "Fast and the Furious", You Tube comments made by nimrods, X-Box racing games, ect. Most of the ones I have had the displeasure of conversing with at car shows, cruise ins, or web forums drive grocery getters that are borrowed from Mom or Dad, they still live at home with the parents, make minimum wage, and spend most of their time being jealous of others who have a life. I try to just ignore them and thank God I am not them.

Yep, absolutely right you are! I forgot about the rusted cherry bombs and duct tape racing stripes being nation wide and not just in my neck of the woods. Very funny and true too. Too bad about the jealousy I see at the cruise-ins, as it doesn't accomplish anything and there's no cure for it. Your low E.T. represents some good driving too. Bravo!

My woeful driving skills are well-documented elsewhere...I remember the Paul Randle interview which was what first piqued my interest in the Bullitt after I discovered it was the only car in the marque which was available in Green - if I can't trust another Brit, who can I trust (well he doesn't sound like he's from your side of the pond and I vaguely recall someone by that name working for Ford Rally Sport in the UK - any takers on this? I'm prepared to be shot down in flames on this one)?

But no, the suspension's just not quite hard enough for me and the way I drive...

I've driven a lot of Fast Fords in my time, most of which have been modded in one way or another;
my old RS500 4x4 and Escort RS Cosworth probably being ones you'd recognise.

I know, an old thread.

It's funny, because after seeing a Bullitt in person, I really got a new appreciation for the car. So I started thinking, do I change a few things on my car and end up with some kind of GT/CS/Bullitt hybrid?

Then I came to realize the only solution is to keep both cars as they are and have one of each. Yeah, I know, easier said then done for most...but it's nice to dream.

I'm done with my ramble.

Leave yours alone (on the outside). The white CS looks GREAT! My 2nd fav S197 Mustang.

Yes, buy both. It's only money.

The previous owner did do a little upgrading though.
