Shelby GT MSRP+$20,000 market adjustment
The thing that p*sses me off the most is I am a very loyal Ford guy and their actions have me where I swore I would never be. Thinking about buying some other brand. More than thinking at this point actually. That just riles me.
I have a couple of questions about the Shelby GT500. Many say it is not going to be worth more and you could just add the mods. Is the VIN number unique? Will that identify a true Shelby? Second question, wasn't the original Shelby of 1967 just a regular mustang with mods? Yet they bring the strongest dollars at auction. The second strongest are factory originals not heavily modded cars. Lets face it a factory original Mach 1 of the early 70's brings more than one with a personally modded fiber glass car or one that has **** carpet. Now a new Chip Foose design might be the exception. A 07 Shelby with 500HP is considered factory. You buy it and add those mods and no value is added. Heck if you trade your car 3 years from now, a GT starts with a value of 27K a Shelby at 44K, depreciation starts at that point. If you bought a Mustang V8 and added 10 grand to get to 37K the resale value would not consider the 10K you put in.
It's just a matter of time, I remember when the Mustang came out and they were getting $5000 over for a GT!!! Now you can deal all over the place for them!! wait until the Camaro and Challenger come out, they will have Shelby's sitting all over the place!!! I will never pay a "Premium" for a car.. Patience is the key Just wait another 6 Months and see what the Market looks like then!!!!

I've been in the same boat as you but not any more, two purchases and three referrals (1 purchase) to other makes since last September, purchases which would have gone to Ford. I'll buy Mustangs but nothing else. If Ford doesn't care there is no reason why we should either.
I think the problem here is that everyone thinks they're CREATING a legend in the same vein that the original Shelbys of the 60's BECAME legends. You just can't create a legend. The cars of the 60's bring huge money today because they were over the top, factory produced race cars. Add to that the guys who lusted over them back in the day (but couldn't afford them) are now at a point in their lives where they have the disposable cash to pay the crazy high prices they've been bringing lately (reduced supply with big demand). Now the marketing guys/dealers think they can cash in on the Shelby legend and charge enourmously inflated prices with the assumption that they'll just keep appreciating in value. What everyone is missing is that the only guys that can actually afford these newest offerings are the very same guys who lusted after the Shelbys of the 60's. I'm generalizing here, but I'm sure the that majority of the demographic that is buying the GT500s are in the 50+ range. I'm not sure anyone is buying the Shelby GTs. The flaw in the logic is that, for the most part, not a whole lot of folks are lusting for new Mustangs like they were back in the day. The youngest generations are lusting after the Nissan Skyline GT-Rs and Toyota Supras, not Mustangs. So, in 30 years the question is, who will be in the market to pick up the Shelby GT500? I could be a bit off base here, but the bottom line is that the experience from the 60's and early 70's will never be again. Between DOT regs, fuel costs and insurance, those days are loooooong gone. I know this is long rant, but I felt the urge to contribute. I too was faced with a $20k markup at my local dealer for a Shelby GT. I can't get past the fact that Shelby is tacking $8k on the price for the little work they do. I think most would be surprised how much is done by Ford itself with the GT upfitters package. I'll just stick with modding my GT (if it ever gets here!) and drive the wheels off of it!
Well, you can see what happened shortly after Ford stopped caring about its customers >> its customers stopped caring about Ford.
Witness Ford's current financial situation. Their apathy over the years may result in their entropy.

jacostang made the perfect point about what the market will look like once the Challengers and Camaros hit showroom floors. I'm a Ford guy and would never buy the Camaro - but the Challenger is looking awesome and in a couple years......who knows?
At the same time - I'd be willing to bet the Challengers

At the same time - I'd be willing to bet the Challengers and Camaros will see some pretty sick markups as well.
By Christmas you'll be seeing Shelby GTs with rebates.

Just looked at one at my dealer, has anybody looked just past the billit grill? the old grill is still there, looks like they cut the pony emblem out with a sawsall, same with the fog lights, all hacked up. Dealer said they had to rinse off the engine bay, it was full of sand.

Yes they should have and shelby should be ashamed for putting that thing on any car and leaving the hacked up stock grille under it...but seeing some of the other things they've made, this doesn't suprise me so much (grille on thier little blue 6 cylinder anyone?)
I stopped by Marietta Ford this afternoon. They had a Black 2007 Shelby GT with silver stripes in the showroom for $59,000. I didn't have my camera with me--oh well, most of you have seen them already.
The car looked really cool. I really like the grill on these cars but I'm not a fan of the hood scoop with the chinsy rivets.
Hopefully that $20,000 markup will begin to deminish soon.
Shelby CSM Number: 07SGT0071
I don't remember the numbers exactly but it went something like this:
Mustang GT +$28,700
Shelby GT Package +$7,390
Gas Guzzler +$1,000
Market Adjustment +$20,000
===========================
Total: $59,000

Agree on the hood scoop. I'm having SAI add the C6 hood to mine, like the Hertz, and my hood boxed up and shipped to me for storage. I think they could have done a much better job there and while I understand the whole Cobra thing I really think, if they wanted a silly scoop, the CS version from Ford is just fine.
Insane! Sounds to me like the dealer wants to keep the car on the lot for awhile as a showroom draw...or he could just be nuts.

Don't get me wrong but, I like the scoop. Yes it could have been made better but, over all, i like the look of it when im behind the wheel.
Interesting! I do like the shape better than the CS scoop but can't get by the rivet thing. Just my opinion. Obviously enough people liked it as it's on the car! :-)
