Total: $59,000
So the "Vaseline Market Adjustment" is worth more than the actual Shelby GT Package itself...

MORE THAN THE ACTUAL SHELBY GT PACKAGE ITSELF!

MORE THAN THE ACTUAL SHELBY GT PACKAGE ITSELF!

What's wrong with this picture?

Shelby's these days are conversation pieces......Not racers......They're collectible items (maybe)........Real men buy Mustang GT's and mod them the way they see fit......I don't need Carroll Shelby to tell me how to make a Mustang faster or handle better.......buyers are paying for the "Shelby" name....period!

+1 for both posts preceding and then some. I think B-J (the auction, not what the dealer wants you to do to get a Shelby GT) has a lot to do with it. As others have said, might as well build your own.

Excellent post! You nailed that one. The Shelby GT is nothing more than a GT dolled-up with Ford parts counter, "out of the catalogue" stuff that a high school kid could put on. The is an extremely poor value at the sticker price.

A base 07 C6 Coupe can be had for 39,500 and will run the table in every category against these Shelby GTs.

Hell, it'll run the table against a GT500, for that matter.

I just came from Claremont Ford (Claremont Calif) 30 mi E/O Los Angeles.
I have followed prices on these car since the 1st production. I was floored, they had a White Shelby GT with a $30K markup (total msrp $68K) and a GT500 vert with a $35K markup (total msrp $85K)... I asked the salesbunny if she was embarrassed to add that much and the answer was "everybody has them like that" (Bullsh!t) markup because of supply and demand is one thing, that is GOUGING... Not a good place to shop for Shelbys.....

Well, you know what they say: "A fool and his money..."

No one with half a brain would pay the same for an '07 GT500 as an '07 Z06.

saddest part is neither ford nor shelby makes nearly the profit that the gougy dealers will...the dealer margins are probably close to ford/shelby profits at msrp, then they shoot for triple that on top of it...and Ford still gets the black eye for it in the publics perspective...I aint dead yet, and those dealers that wouldnt budge on ADM when I went to order mine will never see any thing from me but possibly a note/pic of my next ford and why some other dealer got the sale. only two local dealers I'll ever go to for a ford next time...Progressive in Canal Fulton, or Montrose Ford in akron were msrp...

the others I checked at were all demanding 5~10 over just to accept a freaking order for a gt/stick(early~mid 2006 with Ohio's pathetic regional allocation limits) screw them. I hope every buyer that was upside down on their loan/equity eventually realizes how bad they are trying to screw folks over...can just imagine some poor guy that paid 10 over and gets in a bad accident- and depreciation/adm losses mean over 50% lost in settlement on a almost new car...I'm sure its happened to someone out there.

this is worse- If I'm reading this correctly, theyre talking Shelby GT's here, NOT GT500's !!! totally freakin nuts. a dressed up GT for more than the suggested price of the gt500...insane.

Sorry, what I meant to say is that no one would pay as much for a GT500 - NEVER MIND merely a Shelby GT - as a Z06.

I think these are fine cars and would love to have one. I just can't see them truly becoming collectable. Take a stock Mustang, add some performance parts and a Sheby badge and they think that is worth 5, 10, 20, thousand more then MSRP.

Oh, I'm sure they will be. It will just take more time than most buyers will ever own the car. Just don't see the sense in paying a "distant future value" for a car today when it will only depreciate in actual value while you own it.

Dealer markup drives me crazy. (Heck, I'd never even pay MSRP!) But it takes TWO for a successful "gouge".

It's easy to blame the dealers, or even Ford, but if there weren't willing buyers out there, there would be no ADM.

If I were to offer you $100,000 for your car right now, who would be crazier...me for offering, or you for not taking it? In other words ASKING more than list for a Shelby GT is not as crazy as PAYING it!

And, my two cents, while I think the Shelby GT will always command a bit of a premium over a well equipped or tastefully modified GT, it will NEVER get near the value of old GT350s. I think that's what some buyers are hoping for.

I agree, which is why I would not have paid over MSRP for mine. I didn't buy mine for future value...I bought mine to drive every day. And it is a great car.

+1

Exactly!

Mine is a daily driver and i enjoy it every time i get behind the wheel and start it up! Some times i look for excuses to go for a run some where. I just dont go to stores are walmart and stuff like that (Dents and dings). In the future if it holds its value to some extent, ok, but other then that im wearing the rubber off mine.......

What goes around, comes around.

Do you guys remember how Ford dealers were bragging and gloating on the ebay pricing for the GT500s? There are over 50 Shelby GTs on ebay, many without bids, this being three weeks since dealers have been receiving them. The next couple of months should be quite intriguing.

They sure aren't bragging now, are they?

Good I hope they choke on them and lose take it in the a*s this year. After all this BS and the crap I have been through in the last 2 year's first with not getting my 05 GT, then cant get a GT500 without getting raped and more recently getting the same bunghole enlargement attempt on the Shelby GT I have decided not to buy a new truck this year. I was going to trade the company delivery truck in and get a new one but Im going to wait and year and now going to look at other brands. I have always been a diehard Ford guy but enough is enough.
