07 Shelby GT Gas Tax Scam?

I got my Black Shelby GT 1 month ago and now have 600 miles on the clock.
Today I put my lite shoes on reset the onboard trip computer and headed out on the hiway, against all odds I was able to keep my foot out of it for 40 plus miles at 60 MPH and checked the average MPG to my surprize it showed 29.7 MPG. well above the 26 MPG required for a non gas guzzler.
So if I can do it why couldnt who ever test this for the goverment????

any one else been able to duplicate this?

Not a big deal...I didnt buy the car for a great MPG nor do I really care what it can do in that area...all I care about is how hard it can set me back in the seat when I hit it.

Try it at 70 and the mileage will drop dramatically. I don’t know how the test works but they have to pass it twice. They didn’t pass it the second time and they did not have time to do a complete re-test before they started selling them, hence the tax.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Um, hate to burst your bubble, but the gas guzzler tax is not based on highway cruising, but rather, on combined driving in town and highway. Anyone can get mid 20's on the highway in our cars, but try that around town.

For example, I get 23 mpg with my lightly modded 07 GT (with big stall converter and 4.10 gears) when I'm on the freeway and the terrain is fairly flat. Around town, however, I average about 13 mpg, which is definitely a gas guzzler! When I'm driving in a VERY spirited manner around town, 10-11 mpg is not uncommon in my car.

So, were you "scammed," as you put it? Absolutely not. You just need to understand the criteria being used to make a determination as to whether a car is a gas guzzler.
