I was wondering about that myself. I looked it up and they are the Ford Racing mufflers which are the same as Borlas.

I thought they were the Ford Racing also. But I don't think they are. If you look at the ford racing website they have a comparison of all the different performance gt's. It lists what parts from Ford Racing arre used on the different models.

But when you look at the Shelby GT-H under exhaust, it does not list the ford rcing axle back. Tak a look at this link...

after looking at the tips closely, they don't look like the FRPP mufflers, the ones on the GT-H stick out much more.

I think I read it was the FRPP exhaust on this site. On the Hertz page it states the following:

"Ford Racing Performance Parts Improve Performance, Handling
Horsepower for the 4.6L SOHC 3-Valve-powered GT-H is increased 25 horsepower to 325 and torque is increased 10 pound-feet to 330 thanks in part to Ford Racing exhaust including a new crossover pipe, which makes its debut in the GT-H."

But the tips in this photo look more like Corsas:

Hmmm....

OK, this is straight off of the Shelby web site:

"Ford Racing Performance Group is supplying its popular Power Pack (FR1) to add a genuine 25-horsepower Ford performance kick to the 300-horse Mustang GT 4.6L V-8/Five-speed automatic transmission powertrain and an increase of 10 lb.-ft. of torque. The package includes Ford Racing’s 90mm Cold Air kit, the Muffler Kit, a new X-pipe similar to the one used on the new Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang, a performance calibration and a cat-back performance exhaust for that throaty sound that will make this car unmistakably a Shelby Mustang GT-H."

So the mufflers ARE by FRPP. But it's not clear if they are Borlas or not.

And after some digging on the FRPP site, the mufflers used on the Hertz Shelby are M-5230-MGA. These are NOT the FRPP Borla Stinger mufflers (M-5230-5GT). I found this out by going to the page that lists special editions:

http://www.fordracingparts.com/mustang/buildyourown.asp

And clicking on "power upgrade packages". You'll see that GTH lists the power upgrade package "M-2005-FR1". You can click on that and it will show you the individual components including the above muffler number. I attached a pic below of the FR1 package. These mufflers do look like the ones used on the GTH and are definitely not like the Borla stingers. It's not a Corsa either, nor does it look like the Borla oval can. I'm not really sure what muffler it is!

EDIT- upon comparing this photo to the link I posted above of the rear of the Shelby, they do not look like the same mufflers. I just noticed there is the following note on the photo: "NOTE: Photo and specs may vary." So I guess the photo is not dependable for info.

So, we know that the Hertz Shelby mufflers can be bought through FRPP, but we don't know who actually makes them. They look like Corsa tips, but the price on the FRPP site is way below what the Corsas go for.

Aren't those the quieter, 50-state borlas?

They might be. In the pictures I've seen of the oval can Borlas it doesn't look like the tips have that internal flare you can see on the GTH photos though. But I watched that Hertz Shelby commercial yesterday and was struck by how QUIET the car is! It sounds like it has stock mufflers! So maybe that's what they are. A lot of the rental cars are ending up in CA, so that might explain it.

I just rented one and they are definately not the Borla/FRPP Stingers. I like my Stingers much better than what is on the GT-H - deeper & louder.

Thanks for that comparison Joe, I was actually thinking about the GT-H version because I really like the tips, but I'd rather have the more aggressive sound of the stingers.
