According to our teleconference this Am with the Shelby team, the Hertz Edition is NOT a Shelby but a clone with an upgraded GT engine.

How is it that a Ford built car with a Shelby badge is the real thing, while a Ford built car modified at a Shelby owned facility and with a Shelby badge is a clone?

Sounds like Ford is concerned about Mr Shelby's extra curricular activities

Well, I read from my Mustang club's newsletter that Hawaii - probably Honolulu - will have them(?) available for rent. Also read some will be built with manual transmissions- but for (Hertz? FoMoCo?) executives, not for rental. Being so far from Dearborn, I can only take it as rumor. I'll look forward to seeing one next to one of our club member's original at a car show, hopefully soon.

I searched through HERTZ website looking to see where I can rent one of these cars from. Even as a Gold Memeber I still dont see anything about the GT 350-H.

Does anyone have info on where these cars will be available?

Hertz in Las Vegas is supposed to get 20 cars in the next couple of weeks (maybe not all at once though) and should have them ready to rent. I'm gonna call tomorrow to find out if they've gotten a firmer date, and try to reserve one for a couple days.

I like it except for the hood design. IMO, it makes the front of the car look lumpy instead of sleek..

I posted back to another thread, but I called Hertz LV on Monday, and they had the cars in. She told me they were having some kind of special ontheir premium cars that day, and if I came down I could probably getone, but it was $300 a day. Dunno if I need to drive one that bad.

Are they going to make the Grille for the aftermarket like they did with the CS6?

Well, I'll tell you my short lived story with the GT-H. I never got it!! Long story short, I reserved one for Memorial Day weekend from Hertz at LAX, 4 days before I picked it up, with a 100% confirmed reservation. Went down to pick it up on Friday afternoon, after waiting in line for 35 minutes, filling out the paperwork and waiting for Manager approval. Well anyway the manager finally comes over and says we can't rent you this car. Why, I ask. Becuase you don't have a return plane ticket. I replied your kidding, right? He says no sir. He goes on to say the are not renting the cars to locals, becuse of theft. Has anyone heard of this, ever?? I've rented plenty of cars and never heard of this. By the way none of this was mentioned during my phone reservation. Needless to say I am very pissed with Hertz, and am in the process of finding the highest person on the food chain at Hertz to give them an earful. If anyone else has rented locally with no problem, I would love to hear from you.

i also have had Hertz problems, while trying to rent a 2005-2006 mustang. On the phone they tell me one thing then I arrive to pick it up and they have a 2003 model, no offense to owners of older mustangs but for me it was 2005 or nothing, they basically coped the attitude that oh well....so that was my last Hertz rental or near rental

Yes, I have been a victim of this policy at Alamo. Quite a few years ago, I wanted to rent a top-end Lexus for a short vacation drive up the coast to SFO. Same thing as you, they refused to rent it due to my local address and because of the high rate of theft and later found stripped hulls of these expensive cars.

BTW, I was driving back from LAX yesterday on the 405 and saw my first Shelby GTH blazing by in the OHV - pretty cool looking car - maybe it was the one you were supposed to get?

I was down at Mid-O for a track day a couple weeks ago, and a guy was running one. He had to go all the way to Boston to find one, rented it, and drove back to OH at $.49 a mile. It wasn't really fast on the track, but it did look cool.

here's some in-car video of it from my buddy's Z/06:http://userpages.i-america.net/austin/midohiocn.wmv

I rememebr when the 350Z was almost 200 a day ... and after a few months it dropped in price ... 200 a day average is kinda high, for most Hertz rentals, the most expensive was like 275 a day ( trying to remember ) for an audi a6

Without further ado.... the GT-H.........

Burke, thank you for those fantastic pics!! You've really done it justice, I didn't think too much about it until seeing these portraying it in its full glory. Wow it's nice! It's shame there isn't a vert version though. Does anyone know what exhaust these are running? The tips look cool!

EDIT- I did some digging and the mufflers are Ford Racing catbacks, same as Borlas.
