Winters?

OK, yes 2009 GTCS Convertible but I can get stuck at work in the winter with chance of snow. So our stock rims are 18x8.5 45mm offset. Can we go down to 17x8.5 rim with similar offset, if so what tire size would you recommend to keep the same size diameter. Really curious on if the Rim will work just reducing to a 17" rim but all other specs staying the same on sizing.

Thanks,
Ted

Stock pre-18 rims were 17x8 inches; I don't know the offset. Stock tires were 235-55, if I remember correctly. All come in at about 27.2 inches diameter. Look on some tire vendor's site to find equivalent diameters in snow-capable tires.

Frank yes, the size is 235-55R17's, diameter is 27.2 inches. OK, so 17x8 with 40mm offset should fit and clear our calipers? DIfference between 45 and 40mm offset is .2 inches, about 5/100's off for exact match. I know there are other factors in rim design for clearance.
I am considering 17's to get a little extra side wall and price drops considerably.
Frank, I appreciate the help.

Thanks,
Ted

Scott, That would be a nice option. I need a winter beater. Not happening this winter though. :/
