The 96R is slightly smaller, and thus lighter. It's all part of the "performance" package.

Did Shaker 1000 owners get the Group 40 battery?

 

I have the Shaker 1000 and Anti-Theft and have a 40R....

 

I wonder if the Group 40R tray and bracket is different from the Group 96 tray/bracket? If not, one could always waltz into Meijer, Wal-Mart, or Sears and buy a Group 40 battery!

I also have a vert -- would they add the extra capacity to deal with the drain of the motor for the top?

 

07 here. I have the ATS w/ Shaker 500 and I have the 96 ...

 

Can the 40R and 96R battery owners measure or take pics of their battery tray and hold-down assembly? If they use the same bracket and tray, it'd be a simple matter of buying a replacement 40R when the 96R dies.

 

My dealer is changing my 96R to a 40R next week - I'll let you know then.

 

Tuco - is your dealer just being "customer friendly" or did they admit that Ford made a mistake? If they did admit to it being a mistake - where did they look to make the decision to replace......I could tell my dealer to look there as well.

Hotlap - I think they are just doing it as I pointed out to them that some of the Ford literature and the Ford Canada website refers to a 60 amp/hr battery with the Active Alarm package. I don't think Ford has admitted to anything but I'll try to find out for sure on this coming Thursday.

 

Tuco - thanks for checking it out I appreciate that. I think that the 60amp batt is the heavy duty and someone just needs to educate the dealers as to Ford's mistake.

 

Well, here's the update on my battery situation - for what it is worth.

Took the CS in to dealer for oil/filter change (at 1600kms - about 1000 miles) and had the dealer change my BXT96R battery (52 amp/hr batt) for the BXT40R battery (60 amp/hrs). Dealer had agreed to do this for me, I wasn't able to clearly tell if dealer was going to be reimbursed by Ford or not, I'm guessing not. They changed it, then called me into the shop to see the result - the 40R battery is slightly larger and doesn't fit as well into the battery holder. The battery cover or blanket the car came with will not fit over the 40R battery. Also, the 40R sits up higher and the service guy was concerned it might rub on the hood underbelly. S0 - in the end, I said to heck with it, and put back the 96R battery it came with. I guess it would only be a concern if your alarm went off and you couldn't shut it off for quite some time. I'm not worrying about it any more.

Incidently, the 96R is on the "build sheet" for the car that came from the plant in Flat Rock. End of the issue for me. Sorry, guys, thought I would have had better news. One good thing was that the dealer was willing to do it for me at his expense.

 

Tuco - thanks for the feedback - I'd guess that there is a different battery mount for the 40R that would need to be changed out at the same time as the battery.

My 40R has a blanket too.

 

Shaker 500 w/active anti theft on mine = 40R. Sounds like a tossup if you actually get what battery you are suppose to get! way to go Ford...

 

I've got Shaker 1000 and Anti-theft comin in so I'll let you guys know about my battery. Better be a 40r.

Yes. It says it on the lower left corner (96R or 40R).

 

Just checked my 2005 Mustang GT with Shaker 500 and Active Anti-Theft, and it has the BXT-40R.

Also, I checked my wife's 2006 Mustang V6 w/Pony Package, which also the Shaker 500 and Active Anti-Theft, and it too has the BXT-40R.
