Should Shelby Make The KR Hood Available For Public Purchase?
Shelby has told me the KR hood would retail for $6500.00. Expensive, but if someone wanted to purchase one at that price, I think they should be able to.
They also said the reason it wasn't available was to cut down the cloans, since as they put it, cloans devalue the vehicles and it wouldn't be fair to those who purchased a real Shelby.
And yet, they sell GT500 parts on their website.
Fellows, if it's not a KR or Shelby GT, they don't consider it a real Shelby despite what they pay lip service to.

I am deeply moved by their sudden concern for $$$$$, I mean... integrity. Only $6,500?
Imagine what its cost would be if it was a perfect fit.
A couple years ago Carroll Shelby himself placed his stamp of a approval on a 1967 or 1968 GT500 cloan which was a restomod WITHOUT matching numbers. It was an excellent recreation, black with white stripes, brand new FRPP engine (might have been a 429 ci) and a bunch of other upgrades, sold at Barrett-Jackson for just over $200K. I would think his fee did not come cheap, of course, likely to be for the sake of "product integrity". Of course.
I would be very surprised if Carroll Shelby's endorsement was done out of the goodness of his restomod heart.

Update: According to Shelby, they are the victms, just like all those other GT500 owners out there, it's Ford who won't sell the hood to the general public, and not them........
Since Ford could care less about who they sell GT500 parts to, I'm thinking something else is going on.......
Maybe once all the KR mark-ups have been but away safely in the bank, Ford will release the hood into their parts bin.....if they need the revenue......
I don't think they would ever double-cross KR owners......
But then again, in a different thread 05stangKC just released a brochure showing stamped KR 18's........and I thought those were only available to KR owners......

Hey purplepony, Screw Shelby's overpriced ill-fitting hood. Go wth a Trufiber "Venom" hood. It's not perfect by any means, as no fiberglass hood is, but it's as good or better than the Shelby hoods from what I am hearing from friends who have purchased the SS hoods. I saw a real KR at the Okc auto show and I think the Trufiber hood is every bit as good, or better than what I saw on the Shelby.

If Shelby cares so much for the owners why was he salivating and gloating about all the money dealers were making off the sales instead of taking the owners' side? Their hypocrisy and lack of integrity never ceases to amase me. They are all about making money, nothing else.
I don't think many GT500 owners see themselves as victims or lose any sleep over cloans. Besides, a quality cloan is not cheap and can cost as much as an original if not more.

Send in the clones...where are the clones?
Begun, the clone wars have.
Honestly I don't know why someone would go through the trouble, and expense as George pointed out. But if that is what they want then so what? I really love the styling of my GT500, like it much more than the GT, but styling like beauty is only skin deep. It's what's under the hood that attracted me to the GT500 most. I would be far more interested in the performance mods of the KR or SS than the styling.

$6500 is absolutely ridiculous, I would take that 6500 and make my GT500 a monster, but the world needs idiots
Sorry to say but the world is already filled with idiots. Unfortunately, we share the same roads as these people.
There's also people who have more money than sense. Look at the first to own the GT500. They paid upwards of $80k +....... I met one late last year. Thought he got a good deal. When I told him I bought mine for $47k (MSRP) he did not believe me. Idiot!

I am the VICTIM of having to drive a 500 horsepower Mustang! Cry for me!
I have to hand it to them, they do have a sense of humor. Damm right we are the victims but not from the cloans.

You don't need to worry.
If there is one classless GT500 owner not worthy of sympathy is none other than you.
