Shelby GT500 Super Snake Package

Las Vegas – April 27, 2007 – Shelby Automobiles will use newly-developed Ford Racing GT500 performance packs to help transform a limited number of 2007 and 2008 Ford Shelby GT500’s into fire breathing “Super Snake” coupes. The Super Snake post-title package will include enhancements to the Ford Shelby GT500’s handling, styling and power; tuning options will range from a warranted 600 HP V8 to over 725 HP (unwarranted). Only a limited number of Super Snakes will be built per model year at the Shelby Automobiles facility in Las Vegas beginning in late 2007.

“My team at Shelby Automobiles is always working on new ways to build better performing cars” said Carroll Shelby. “I told them that I wanted to build a vehicle that could blow the doors off of most anything on the planet. By partnering with Ford Racing, we’re giving enthusiasts a Mustang with that level of performance.”

Working together at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and in Dearborn, Ford Racing and Team Shelby developed the aggressive suspension and engine package specifically for the car.

“Mustang enthusiasts are demanding more from both Ford Racing and Shelby Autos” said Jamie Allison, Manager of Ford Racing Performance Group. “The GT500 Super Snake package, with its higher horsepower levels and balanced track-inspired tuning, satisfies those demands and then some … in a uniquely Ford – Shelby way.”

In 1967, Shelby American built one 427-powered GT500 “Super Snake” for Mel Burns Ford. Carroll Shelby drove it at the Goodyear test track for tire promotion film production. That car reached lap speeds of over 150 mph and a top speed of 170 mph. The new Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake will be equally potent.

“The name ‘Super Snake’ is legendary because the one that Shelby built was the pinnacle of muscle cars in 1967,” added Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Automobiles. “We’re bringing that concept forward 40 years for customers who own a Ford Shelby GT500. We’ll give their car amazing new capabilities.”

Ford Racing and Team Shelby developed the GT500 Super Snake package which will include:
• Ford Racing Supercharger upgrade kit (SuperPack 600) producing over 600 horsepower and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque
• 6-speed manual transmission with 3.73:1 rear axle ratio
• Ford Racing performance exhaust system
• Ford Racing Handling Pack offering unique performance suspension tuning including Dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars, and front strut tower brace
• Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels
• Ford Racing short-throw shifter
• Baer 6 piston brakes with Shelby cast calipers and larger rotors
• Front brake cooling ducts
• Unique carbon composite hood featuring classic Shelby design
• ‘Shelby’ lettering across the front edge of hood and rear decklid
• 'Super Snake' vehicle badging
• Carroll Shelby signature embroidered headrests and floor mats, and other Shelby designed components
• Official Shelby CSM dash plate

In addition, while the full Super Snake package will be available exclusively through Shelby Automobiles, many of the products comprising the Super Snake package will be available from Shelby Automobiles and Ford Racing starting in June.

I'm starting to care less and less about these cars that are only made so that really rich people can buy them....whats the point of all the R&D if there are only going to be a couple hundred built? I'm getting seriously fed up with all of these cars that arent in the 350-400hp range and not built for the general public to consume.

lol the probelm isnt the high HP its the price the dealers ask for them, remember so far Ford has priced these that most of anyone could get one, the dealers are the ones ruining it for people (well them and the morons that are willing to pay what they ask). Id be stoked to get a 600 or 725hp production car over a 350-400hp version, especially if you could actually buy one in the 70-80K range like the Z06s and Vipers.

I was implying that these high horsepower cars will bring out or reach prices.....and yes...I too would love to get a 600-800hp car for around $30K...or less even!

30K is dreaming these would be properly priced around 70-80K (which Id completely expect them to be at MSRP) and if they were Id buy one

I think the point here is >> where is the 400 HP Mustang to fill the gap between the GT and GT500, one that average middle class people can actually afford? There's too much emphasis right now on Shelbys, Super Shelbys, Extra Super Shelbys, Extra Super Duper Shelbys, etc, etc.

Also: "I told them that I wanted to build a vehicle that could blow the doors off of most anything on the planet." Most anything on the planet, huh? This ain't the '60s anymore. That's gonna be a tall order, and I'm starting to get the feeling that someone is beginning to believe their own press.

How do I say this?

Cool car/concept. But, personally, I'll never be in the market for a 600+ hp mustang. I'd be an accident waiting to happen with that much hp.

While I too would like something to fill the 400 hp "gap," I'm not gonna rain on a 600 hp 'Stang's parade. I just hope it's got enough suspension work to be more than a 1/4 miler.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I think it's uber cool, too. The look is just sick. But it's for people who breathe rarified air - which discounts most of us, I presume.

Even if it does, the amount of suspension work needed to overcome both the power and the car's SRA will undoubtedly vibrate your fillings loose.

So build your own. It would make a great show for The Speed Channel or Discovery. They would pay you to do it if you packaged the idea right.

Well, think about this.....you can't use half of this power on the street without getting a stack of tickets ,you can't even get the car to "hook-up" without extensive mods. Most people can't drive it well enough on a road course to survive two laps at it's potential. Let a rich fool pay $65k for an overpowered toy to kill himself in. So where are we now? A $20k motor in a $20k car with $20k worth of "SHELBY" letters. I love Mustangs ,but we've probably found the end of logic here with the SuperSnake. This is really just a great museum piece for a car collector with too many stock options. A modified GT would be more useful and WAAAAAY less expensive. I can be happy with that. Good luck with wretched excess.

Agreed. I am so sick of this Shelby BS. FRPP parts installers is all Shelby is. Bring the SVT Cobra back.

A thought occurs: A Shelby Power Pack like this SS package, but for the GT or Shelby GT instead, could slot into that 400hp gap quite nicely. What do you think, Amy? Could Shelby do an enhanced Shelby GT package to bridge that GT-GT500 gap?

The GT500 is an SVT Cobra...effectively.

And if you don't believe me, just ask George.

I'm curious about the side scoops. Are the lower scops functional rear brake ducts? What is the purpose of the upper scoops (since the rear side mirrors don't open), other than to look cool and block rear vision?

Judging from Shelby Autos' expertise in dealing with scoops, grilles, and cosmetics in general, I would not be too optimistic or enthusiastic to allow them to cut into the fenders to make those side scoops functional.

At the risk of being labeled a pessimist my vote is for fake scoops. Just in case.
