As long as high performance cars are manufactured, there will be clones. Just look back at history. How many have put Boss 302 striping on a '70 302 Mustang sportsroof.... How about Z28 emblems on a base six-banger Camaro.... How about a "Hemi" hockey stripe on a '70 318 Barracuda.... You'll see cars just like these for sale on Barrett-Jackson. They call them "re-creations" or "tribute" cars nowadays....

I've never seen anything like what you described. I've seen Z/28 badges on Camaros with DZ302s and hockey-sticks on 318 Cuda's, but they read "318" instead of "HEMI."

If Ford would have seen to it that we all had access to them without being "gouged" then i would have had the real deal sitting in the garage right now.... i am actually more proud of what i have done knowing all the $ i saved! She's getting X-charged Friday!!! Plenty of power to satisfy my needs, the looks i wanted to begin with, and a much, much frendlier price tag!!!

I have no problem with anyone who wants to make themselves a clone of any brand of car. The only thing I have a problem with is when said person tries to pass off the clone as a REAL McCoy. Clones are good in regards to having people actually see what the real things used to look like.

What I mean by this, is that Shelby Mustangs, Yenko Camaros, Hemi 'Cudas are so valuable, current owners are too scared to actually drive them on the street as you never know what could happen. With clones of GT350's, GT500s, Yenkos, Stingray Vettes, at least you get to see what the real car WOULD look like. Without the clones, you may really never see the real deals out driving other than at car shows.

Curious... if an owner of a GT purchases all the genuine Shelby parts direct from Ford and installs on a GT, would it still be a "clone" or "fake"? In other words, if all the components are real Shelby parts would it still be considered a clone?

For what its worth, I am a GT owner who loves the look of the Shelby and would love to invest in Shelby components for my plain-jane GT.

Yes. The VIN defines what a car is, not the parts on it.

Who gives a S**t!!!!! If YOU like it GO FOR IT!!! Mine is a V-6 with a supercharger on it.... I love it and would not have it any other way.... Mustangs are always modded anyway, whatever makes you happy, it's your car, who cares what anyone else thinks!! As long as you enjoy it. I have recieved Sooo many compliments on the car it is ridiculous, and i do not hide the fact of what it really is, never made anyone give me any negativity..... The look is really nice and different! Whatever rows your boat man!!! jUST my OPINION!!

Totally agree. It's been said a thousand times, it's YOUR car. Do anything you want to it.

The fact I stated about the VIN is only important when it comes to originality / collectability. For example, original hemi Mopars bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars. A non-original hemi Mopar (clone) brings in less but it still is worth a ton!

You GT-500 fans are really going to get rattled in a couple years when Ford sticks the GT-500 facias and hood on the V6 Stangs.

Think I'm making this up? Go look at the hood on a 2004 V6 Mustang and tell me what you see.

And the wheels! Those Cobra guys were not amused in the least.
It's called depreciating value.

Take it as a compliment that Other's use the same body parts on their cars as the GT500s. Lots of people like them and that is not really a bad thing to me. As a GT500 owner yourself ( assuming based on your Sig ), that you might share the same opinion as i.

FoMoCo should also only allow Shelby body panels to be ordered by Ford dealers supplying a valid Shelby VIN.

What a travesty!! NO POM POMS HERE! TWO THUMBS DOWN!!!
