Do I feel like having a beer or a martini, shaken not stirred?

So just keep the 1965 coup, and get the new 2008 GT500... I’m willing to bet if you pass up your opportunity to buy a new GT500 you will live with regrets for many years to come…

Sorry, don't necessarily agree, although everyone suffers a different sense of loss!

I sold a rare 1966 Nova SS L79 (327/350HP 4 speed) before buying my GT500. The Nova was a total restoration as original and fully documented. I bought it in 1999 and thought I'd never part with it. However, the opportunity came to sell it for almost 3 times what I paid for it. To give you an idea of value, an L79 Nova sold at B-J last month for $90,000. After all the commissions and fees were paid, he probably took home slightly more than I did in a private sale. I regretted selling the L79 until I first tromped on the gas pedal of my GT500 and the period of mourning was instantly over.

I've been in the classic car hobby for many years and, believe me, a modified 1965 automatic 289 Mustang isn't going to fund very much of your retirement no matter how long you keep it. I say, get the best deal you can selling the 65 and the best deal on a GT500, but don't expect it to be an appreciating investment. If it turns out that it is, you're a double winner.
