Oil changes

The Schedule Maintenance Guide suggests oil changes to be performed every 5K miles. Anyone doing them any different?

I am doing every 1500mi, which I realize is way overkill. You would be surprised, however, at how dirty the oil is at 1500.

A good buddy of mine that runs a large service business recommended 1500 saying "the key is never letting the oil get dirty in the first place". For a normal car, no way. For something that I plan to keep forever, sure. If I ever do sell it, the 1500mi changes will make it that much more attractive.

Besides, it gives me something to do to the car.

I do mobile 1 synthetic every 10,000 miles and the oil comes out in almost the exact same condition it went in.

That many, huh? I presume you have read them all.

Well, then you should not have a problem pointing at least one out of the five thousand threads on TMS which deals specifically to the frequency of the GT500's synthetic oil changes. You can narrow your search by excluding a couple of thousand topics dealing with the first oil change.

TIA.

Bad color oil does not equal to bad oil!

The GT500 uses 5w50.

I beleive only Motorcraft and Trop-Arctic are approved so far for the Shelby's.

Same oil as in the Ford GT.

A bit pricey though. Just under $7 a quart.

More oil info.
