Need advice on trading for GT500
Guys, I have a beautiful 2006 Mustang GT as described below but my bigger/better obsession has driven me into talking to local dealer about a trading for a GT500. The deal sounds good money-wise, but I wrestling with whether the trade would be worth it in terms of better performance, other features, etc., between the two cars. I think I remember KC from Clevenger Ford indicating that the difference from his Roushcharged GT to a GT500 was not that dramatic. Any help would be appreciated as I look forward to another sleepless night.

ha I almost did it last week they have a 08 Shelby GT500 vapor vert they wanted 61,000.00 for it thats what they were asking , so If I gave them my 07 GT/CS and financed the rest they wanted still 61,000.00 and I paid like 43,000.00 for mine Ah Now I will wait untill they have the Sync system in the place a factory order. I think you may take too big a loss on your 06 ?

It would make sense (by calculation only) that your car is probably not a far cry from the performance of a GT500. The problem is if the continued high selling prices of the GT500 are any indication of long-term value retention, the GT500 would be a better investment. My gut feeling is that anyone buying a GT500 will get killed in resale value "long-term". Short-term......is a different story. My guess is if you buy a GT500 now, you "should" be able to turn it at a minimal loss in the next year or so. to be honest, I still don't understand why they're still so high-priced but I guess I'm just not "getting it".

They are giving me a decent price for the Mustang GT and then asking only MSRP for the GT500. Additionally, the GT500 will be a 2009 that I can order to my specs. The dealer says he was allocated one GT500 and the order is supposed to placed in the next week.

GT500's are now going for MSRP or better
So, in short, these aren't holding much value right now. I'm seeing asking prices of current MSRP for used ones, however, they aren't selling.
Ask Kevin Casey about the beating he took on selling his Roushcharged GT!
If you are willing to take the beating on it and can afford the 500, I say go for it!

Your Modded GT to a stock GT500 would not be that huge of a leap. If you start modding the GT500, it will blow away the GT. The GT500 has the Ford GT heads. High flow 4 valve heads. People are getting huge increases in power with them. A buddy of mine was at about 780 at the wheels last I knew.

THanks for all the input.
That's what I figured -- I eventually could add power to the GT500 while I am pretty much topped out with the GT absent a short block with forged internals and a bigger blower. Once I pay for all that, I am getting close to the difference I am going to have to pay on my trade-in.
Does anyone know if any changes are planned to the GT500 in the next few years, maybe 2010 or 2011? I know there is talk about a 400hp engine in the GT in 2011.

Unless reincarnation is guaranteed and it's affordable, do it. There is no short change or disappointments with the GT500.
And it doesn't even need window tinting... well, perhaps a little tiny winnie Ford Racing axle back.

There are a lot of factors to consider.
I looked at the GT500's last week.
One dealer was going to give me 3k off of list price.
The car is definately fast- it goes like a rocket.
But when you do a pro's vs. con's list for me the only pro was owning a GT500.
The con's included-
-higher insurance premiums
-higher fuel consumption
-the need to purchase a beater to drive in the winter time
-not really being able to use all those extra horses- we have very tough street racing laws and if caught your car is impounded for a week- plus huge fines and increases to insurance
-the 20+k difference between the price of the GT500 and my Bullitt would probably pay for all my gas use on the Bullitt for the life of that car
In the end the GT500 is just not practical for me.

My high priority mod is definitely going to be the FRPP axle backs like I have on my GT.
Everyone, thanks for the input.

I decided to go ahead with the trade. The deal is I am ordering a 2009 to my specs for MSRP and they are giving me a good price on the Mustang GT, almost as much as I paid for it originally, but of course that doesn't include all the money I put in it afterwards. Car should be here in early August, they say.

Welcome to the GT500 Club (pending crazyhorse's approval of course).
Good for you, and good you did not fabricate lame excuses to not get a GT500. Tomorrow is promised to no one. Which color combo did you choose?
Many CONGRATS!!! ENJOY!

Congrats.
Hopefully you don't have to get rid of it because you run into some financial problems. I know someone who had to get rid of 2 of his cars because of bad money managment. LOL
