GT500 MPG Information

I must have missed this question...

If I drive "spiritedly" hard starts, full boost 6,000+ RPM shifts, mixed with some fairly normal driving, you can't keep a 500 horsepower car that goes 80 miles per hour in second gear on the floor everywhere you drive it, my average is 16+ miles per gallon.

If I take it relatively easy, normal driving, with only the occasional hard passing on the highway, my mileage generally exceeds 22 MPG.

I log each fill up in a log book on everyone of my vehicles, I log the
total miles
trip miles reset each fill up
MPG meter reset each fill up
gallons used reset each fill up

From my log book I can manually calculate any fill up and compare the gallons pumped and MPG with the computers figures. The cars computer is so close to the manually calculated figures that I do not often manually calculate any more.

Not like it matters, but A friend of mine recently traded his GT500 in for a new SRT8 Challenger and noticed a huge difference in mileage. He told me he gets a little as 12MPG in the city with maybe about 18MPG on the highway. Even my modded Cobra gets better mileage than that pig.....

I picked up my 08 GT500 two weeks ago with 79 miles for $48,200 out the door. That included the $1995 the dealer wanted to charge for chrome GT500 rims, NAV, CA sales tax and gas guzzler tax. This seemed impossible back in January. They had 7 other 08s and two 09s (Future Ford in Roseville, CA) Mine had been on the lot since Feb 08.

Other than the clutch chatter that is a well known TSB, I am uber thrilled with it!

Congrats on the new ride. Enjoy it.

The clutch chatter is not a defect. It is a characteristic of the dual disc clutch (so is the hissing noise it makes). As you learn to drive it, the chatter will all but disappear.

We recieved our only 2009 Shelby a few weeks back. Its a Performance White, with the Red Stripe Package, Nav, HID, everything. From what Ford told us, its one of 300 Red Stripe Packages for 2009 model year. It lists for $49,245, but we're asking as low as $47,300! We just want to sell it.

Hey Jeff, how is it going? Seems like a long time since I've talked to you. Good luck selling what sounds like a nice car.

With the current state of affairs, I figure this may be a good time to buy my dream car - Shelby Mustang GT500. I've been watching the listings on ebay for new GT500's and the bidding typically doesn't even hit $40k. I've contacted a couple of dealers, but I need some inside information to effectively deal with them. Does anyone know what the Dealer's Invoice Price is on a GT500? What about other incentives? The more I know about the real cost to the dealer, the better I can negotiate. My choice would be one that is black w/alloy strips, no DVD Nav, no Shaker 1000. Any ideas what that might run?

Thanks!

I'm in the same situation as you guys.

I've been watching as the prices for the GT500s steadily drop.

You can find used ones for 35k with low miles right now. New ones can be had for as little as 42k, just check out ebay.

My big problem is not being sure if I really want one. My current car is faster than a stock GT500 and if I did get the Cobra I wouldn't want to mod it. So I don't know.

But I would guess with the economy being crapola and not getting any better anytime soon that the price will continue to fall.

By next year I would suspect you could find a used GT500 for under 35k easy.

Just a matter of how long you want to wait. Remember cars don't appreciate, and also remember that if you buy from a dealer your "MSRP" price will NOT be the final price... tax, gas guzzler, etc. etc. So you're probably going to be out the door for around 3 or 4k more depending.
