Headlight condensation

Have any of you had a problem with condensation in your headlamp lens.

I took mine to the dealer and they said that mine has what they call "normal condensation".

Note that my car has never even been driven in the rain yet.

They showed me pics of what is normal and what is not. Unless you have standing water or full droplets it is considered normal.

This sucks because one of the first things people seem to point to when you show the car is the condensation.

I'm either going to take the lens apart and try to re-seal it myself or do the SuperSnake look and black them out.

Does anyone know where I can buy the black outs for the front and rear lenses?

Thanks Cal

That sucks. I hate stuff like that.

Mine does not have any at all. It was just built in August. I do have the HIDs, but, the outer lens appears to be the same.

Hey there,

Thats very strange. I just came from a Ford dealership where I was a Service Advisor - dont ever remember condensation in the lights being considered "normal". Didnt see a lot of cars come in with this issue, but have seen them replaced because of it.

MAYBE try a different dealership?

Your owners manual talks about condensation being normal and how to "cure" it.

You pay all that money for your car and they tell YOU how to cure it?

I have the same problem. I'm hoping that the dealership will change it. Condensation inside the headlight should not be normal.

It's on page 50 of the 2008 Mustang Owner's Guide....

Headlamp Condensation

The headlamps are vented to equalize pressure. When moist air enters the headlamp(s) through the vents, there is a possibility that condensation can occur. This condensation is normal and will clear within 45 minutes of headlamp operation.

I would think the lights would be sealed better but then you do live in an area that I would expect constant humidity.

Being surrounded by an ocean and all....

Not that it's right but I think it has lots to do with it...

The problem may be something blocking the vents. These units cannot be "sealed"...they need air movement. Seal it and it'll be worse.

How can you proclaim that it is unacceptable when page 50 of the owner's manual clearly states that it is normal. Try driving with your headlights on all the time - even in daylight. You'll be seen better by other drivers and you'll clear up the condensation simultaneously.

Just because they put in the manual to cover their *** does not mean you should just take it specially when you pay a lot of money for the car!

Some people are not having an issue with condensation so it cannot be "normal"

Oh, I get it. My 07 GT is a daily driver and I drive with my headlights on all the time, so my 07 never has any condensation. The Mustangs our service department sees with condensation are typically low miles, GT500's or GT/CS's that are not daily drivers. They sit long enough between drives to gather condensation and not driven enough when they do get driven to burn it off with headlight use.

By this logic, Ford should list every TSB in the owner's manual as "normal" to cover their ***. Ford is more than happy to honor warranty claims if there is genuine problem. I've seen Ford bend over backwards an infinite number of times to cover questionable stuff through service departments. But, I don't expect them to cover something that is considered normal and is easily corrected without replacing parts and without involving the service department.
