I guess I'm in the minority. I'm #3 on the list for the '07, and I'm paying $10K over msrp. My wife wants one so bad, she doesn't care how much I have to pay for it.

Zoinks! 10K over MSRP. I'd never pay over MSRP, but to each his own I guess. If I can't order an 08 GT500 for at the most MSRP, I'll either order another SE or get a supercharger for my GT.

Yeah, 'Zoinks' is right. I guess you'd have to blame me for all these dealers charging huge markups. Dummies like me will pay it.

I find it funny that people will question your sanity for paying $50,000 for the car (approx. MSRP + $10,000) but if MSRP ended up at $52,500 and you payed $50,000 you'd be a genius. I think the car is worth $50,000 regardless of MSRP. If sticker were $65,000 i still would think the car were only worth $50,000. If you have the money and want the car, go for it and enjoy.

Some people (like me), don't think the car is worth $50K. Consider this, engine and the shelby name aside, what have you? A mustang without a lot of high end features. Where's the navigation and other options that you find in $50K cars? I mean if Ford can design, build and sell an explorer with heated seats, IRS, a radio controls on the wheel, etc, and still sell it for $30K, then why can't Ford throw a few more features into the Shelby? Don't get me wrong, I like the car, but its not worth the markup IMO. I consider $40K absolute tops, valuewise.

Just like the terminators and Mach 1s, Ford will make as many as they can to cash in, and all of a sudden that percieved value plummets for the majority of people.

If someone has the money to spend to be the first on the block with the GT500, and pay the exorbitant markup then more power to them. I think differently.

Just my $.02

I agree, Rob. This car is an improvement over the Terms, but, not $13,000 better. I think the projected MSRP is right in line with what it should be and nothing more.

Karpro is a car salesman. All these people trying to get on his list must be going to his head.

Wow, you are a very accomodating husband. I don't suppose you might have any interest in the car, do you?

PS - Good luck in your quest!

I'll buy when the insanty has passed and prices are reasonable, could be 2008. The problem with waiting that long is that we'll probably know more about the 2009 restyle and if I like it, I'll end up waiting again.....

The right time will present itself...

I don't have to be "first butt in the seat" as a friend of mine puts it. I figure that lots of people will buy Shelbys as an investment (bad idea in my opinion) and after a year or two will realize they need something else more than that extra car sitting in the garage that they're still making payments on. I think there will be some good deals on used ones in a few years, and if so I will pounce then. But hey, I could be wrong and they could continue to increase in value from the start. Hard to say right now. I would love to have one though!

I have planned from the beginning to get an '08. Let the fan frenzy and the bugs get settled, heck maybe there will even be a GT500KR in 2008!

I will wait until the fanatics who want to pay $10K get their cars then evaluate the situation. I predict the same story for the GT500 as the Ford GT - unimaginable prices then reality sets in and prices fall to near MSRP. Just a matter of when it happens. One would think Ford would learn from the GT experience, nah....

I bought a 06 GT in December. I got tired of waiting for ford to decide when there was going to be a gt500. I couldn't wait...as I needed a car. I want a gt500, and I plan to get one, but not for a few years. Maybe 2008 or 2009 model years, after the hype has died down. I'm not willing to pay over sticker for the car. For 40 grand, it is a heck of a car....but for 60 grand, I'll just go look at Z06 vettes. I think once the model has been out for a year or two, and the competitors retro-mobiles hit the streets (camaro, dodge challenger), prices will adjust to normal.

I'd bet it won't take near that long for the prices to settle down to earth...even without the competion of the Challenger or Camaro!

I initially wanted the GT500, but gave up on waiting and got my 06 GT. With the demand and limited quanities, it seems like getting an 07 without markup or plain old luck is unlikely. So I've thought about trading up for an 08 GT500.

Anybody else waiting for the hype to die down a little and order an 08?

Just as the '05s proved, there can be issues and TSBs. We all think the GT500 will be perfect but they are not exempt from possible problems. That, combined with availability and its related markups plus the likelyhood of other colors available the following year makes it sensible to wait. That is not to say I will not change my plans six months down the line if there are no major issues and a good deal presents itself.

1 Bullit pretty much hit the nail on the head with that one, but lets say I did give in and got an '05 or an '06 to hold me over...how much could one expect to trade in a used "05 gt for when he is ordering an '08 gt500?

Depending on condition, mileage, and demand you can expect 60 - 70% return on the original cost if no rebates are in place for new GTs. For the most part, depreciation is closely associated with the Mustang experience. That is something we all have to live with.

Closely associated with the "domestic" experience - not strictly a Mustang thing.

So we needn't feel overly picked on.
