I initially wanted the GT500, but gave up on waiting and got my 06 GT. With the demand and limited quanities, it seems like getting an 07 without markup or plain old luck is unlikely. So I've thought about trading up for an 08 GT500.

Anybody else waiting for the hype to die down a little and order an 08?

Just as the '05s proved, there can be issues and TSBs. We all think the GT500 will be perfect but they are not exempt from possible problems. That, combined with availability and its related markups plus the likelyhood of other colors available the following year makes it sensible to wait. That is not to say I will not change my plans six months down the line if there are no major issues and a good deal presents itself.

I am waiting for an 08 for many of the reasons George mentioned. The GT500 is still tops on my list for 2nd Mustang, but that could change depending on what other models come out (Mach, Boss, etc.)

I still will try to get the '07 model as that is the one I want. If I can't get an '07 then I will wait for the '08. Either way I will get one eventually....

I'm still trying for an '07. Holding out hope that they will make 10,000 and that there are only about 5000 folks willing to pay a large premium. I haven't talked to the dealer lately where I am on the "list"...waiting until I can officially put in an order.

If not, I'll try for an '08...unless I get swayed by some other SE in the meantime.

I agree and I will be getting the'07,...I'm lucky enough to know 2 dealers who have always sold their cars for msrp of lower,...and the best part is they put their reputation on it. Plus I think the '07 first model run,..will be the most collectable also.

I wouldn't assume that 2008's will be any easier to get. We have 25 people on a waiting list with an anticipated allocation of 3-4 per year. Even if 2/3 of our orders disappear, we are sold out for a 2-3 years.

Why do you think it will only be 3-4? They will be making about as many as they did '03s. How many of those did you get?

The 2003's were only for SVT dealers. The new car is going to be available to all dealers. They've said 2 per dealer plus 1 extra for previous SVT dealers plus 1 for sales volume, etc..

· Two incremental units for current full-line SVT dealers (605 dealers)
· One incremental unit for SVT Focus-only dealers (700 dealers)
· One unit for any dealer who completes certification requirements
· One unit for 2005 President's Award winners (343 dealers)
· Remaining production will be allocated based on a Mustang share-of-nation formula

I wonder how many people out there really want to pay $40K for a Shelby. Ford seems to think that there will be 20,000 over the next 2 years. If Ford is right and those 20,000 sell quick (none sitting on the lots), they just might produce a few more....if they are really as big a money maker as some think.

I wish Ford would just announce that after they ship a few to each of the dealers, they will make the Shelby by customer order only for the next two years. That way the areas that have a huge demand will be able to fill all their needs and the low demand areas won't have them sitting on their lots....or worse, shipping them to other areas thereby increasing the cost for the buyer.

Dealers will lose sales opportunities out of greed and those enthusiasts ready to buy will look for alternatives if unable to make a purchase. That will elininate potential buyers. It would be a dumb business decision on the part of Ford to limit the production of the GT500 for the sake of exclusivity and protection of a few while flooding the market with the other Mustang models.

I believe the original and disclosed plans will be altered by demand not by restricting production to protect a minority's interests which are usually financial in nature. If Ford has the ability to produce 5K additional units and not have to provide incentives to sell them I would be puzzled if they didn't take the opportunity to make additional profits.

Based on the letter from D Hazel (sticky at top of page), rpretzel summed it up. The reason I was asking,is do you have newer info than that.

The smaller dealerships will likely not want to certify for the one car they'll get. I think there will be more available than thought.

That 3-4 is the minimum a current SVT dealer will get. The Share of Nation is the X-factor. That is how many more you will get based on previous Mustang sales.

That's a good point Kevin. 4 out of 6 of my closest dealers to where I live are not certified and have no plans to be certified. As a matter of fact, they are lucky if the get more than a handful of GTs per year.

Doesn't it make sense that the reason the dealers will only be getting low numbers initially is that Ford wants to get the Shelby out there and the production line doesn't have the capability to allow shipping 10-15 to each dealer right out of the chute. The demand for this car now, as all can see, is astronomical. As the orders start coming in, Ford should be pushing the assembly line hard and once it hits it's rhythm the Shelby's will be rolling off the line at a higher rate per day.....at least that's how I see it. It's hard to tell exactly how many out there want this car......I just hope Ford makes all the right decisions.

I read in mustang monthly there will be 7000 GT500 2007 Shelby's made. Alottments was something like 2 per SVT dealer, 1 per svt focus dealer and then a lottery for the rest. The Dealers I spoke with are planning on auctioning the cars. 1st one off the line sold at Barret Jackson for 648,000$

I didnt realize they planned on a 2008 model...is this rumor or true?

It was always planned for a two year run with a possible third year. Brad has even stated the two year run in one thread. I was told by SVT that the first year would have the more traditional colors and the second year more "exotic" colors; possible green and other colors.

I seem to remember quite a few lunatis paying $30,000+ on ebay for regular GT's at first. I don't think $40,000 for a Shelby should be too tough.
