Where did you see this quote? I'm curious as to the source and context.
I can vouch for that quote as I've also read it somewhere. It seems like it was on this site but I can't find it now.

I knew someone was going to ask me that.

It was in one of the major automotive magazines month before last. I look at so many of them on the newsstands from month to month - that if I don't buy it, it's hard to remember which one. But what was interesting - and why I remember the quote - is because they took that exact line out of the article and set it graphically in big text over a photo, as magazines often do when they want to emphasize a quote.

Ford has to walk the line with this one -- this is where they find out whether or not people will put up with 4000 lbs of curb weight just to get a lot of horsepower. I'd settle for 25% less horsepower if they'd knock off 25% of the weight . It's gonna be such a sled...

Yeah, it's heavy... but Road & Track's review of its handling have optimistic.

Well, hopefully I can get my Shelby. It's gonna be tough though, since I'm unwilling to pay over MSRP.

What difference does it make if it weighs more than before. Id take a darn 5000 lb brick, if that 5000 lb brick, did the 1/4 in 11.7-12.0 1/4 mile. Course we know it wont be that much, its just the principle. It just makes it that much funner knowing, that if we really wanted, we could attempt weight saving measures. First thing for me, would be to relocate the battery in the rear.

You made my point for me . Some people only want the horsepower. Will that be enough to make the GT500 a winner? It is getting awful close in price to a 2005 Corvette, which is arguably better in every [mechanical] way except for raw horsepower. With the GT500, Ford is taking Mustang even farther away from the sporty car it started out as, and deeper into "Muscle Car." You can have your 5000 lb creature, as far as I'm concerned... I'd much rather have something that weighs a couple thousand pounds less .

Sporty car it started out as? On a 64 Falcon body frame??? The Mustang "as it started out as" was dog slow and its handling can best be described as abysmal.

It's very difficult for any niche performance team to take weight out of a car. The typical P/T and chassis upgrades add weight to the vehicle. The volumes are so low that they can't afford to re-engineer body and chassis components in lighter weight material. They can never recoup the investment required to re-tool these parts. They also avoid light weight actions because it typically requires them to re-certify cars for crash performance.

Can't compare a 2 yr. old '05 vette, with an '07 shelby with price!! Apples for apples man!! Well wrap your a*s in fiberglass then, for more money, and you'll still only break even in performance with the much heavier shelby,if your lucky!!...Pretty sad for a much lighter, more expensive automobile!!!

I drove a brand new C6 Vette the other day. Honestly, it didn't excite me all that much. It had the paddle shift auto and maybe that is why I didn't like the drive. It just didn't seem muscular enough. It was a vert and the ride was terrible. I thought the Mustang GT I drove a few weeks ago was much smoother on the bumps.

I think it was the base suspension. Since then I have driven a Z51 coupe, 6spd. Liked it better, but, still not as much as my car. I also drove an automatic (paddle) coupe with the adjustable ride. The guy just got it, so, I did not get on it or corner it hard enough to adjust the suspension. HE is a co-worker, so, I'll prob drive it again this Summer to compare.

Not at all. I was curious as to which you drove, since the Magnetic suspension seems to offer more comfort than the tighter Z51.
