The $3310 Bullitt package pricing doesn't have any padding built in for "exclusivity"

If you were talking about the over $7000 MSRP Shelby GT package, you might be right, but at $3310, the Bullitt package pricing doesn't have any padding built in for "exclusivity". You certainly COULD NOT make all the identical modifications to a standard GT for less.

You think there would be a great drop in price, for the same parts two years later, I suggest it will not happen, costs of steel and fuel have risen substantially, while Fords profits continue to spiraling into the gutters. Even if it didn't cost quite as much to deliver these parts, at this time, I seriously doubt Ford will be in a position to pass that possible small savings on...

BTW,
On the performance issue, I can fairly confidently state, I don't believe the 2010 standard GT will ever get the 2008 Bullitt's better 3.73/1 gears. That low of a gear in all the V-8 Mustangs doesn't go very well with attempting to meet Federal CAFE standards...

Plus your paying for exclusivity on the Bullitt

It should still be under 30 base for sure. (over depending on how much tech and extra's you want)

Ford makes a NICE profit off of the mustang.
At this point I'm pretty sure the D2C has paid itself off, leaving room open for them to shuffle around.
Believe me... even with the Bullitt parts, on the base car, it won't be 31,000
There's a HUGE difference between parts for 5000 Bullitts, and 50,000+ GTs

Well I guess we'll see when the car hits the market. But I can't see them offering the Bullitt engine and suspension upgrades on a NEW model and then cutting everyone a nice little price deal. The price of 2010 was going to go up just because of the model redesign, but if they do these upgrades my opinion is the price is going to go even higher.

Anyway- without a real change to the powertrains I think for most of us the 2010 is just a wasted model year.

The price difference between the 2004 and 2005 was under 1000 bones if remember correctly.
And that was from an old to NEW chassis.

The price increase on the 2010 is going to go within the normal increases from year to year.
Ecomonies of scale will ensure that the prices will stay lower...and in reality, ford pays nowhere near what the parts 'package' for that car costs to the end consumer.
Especially if they start offering parts as standard, and they already exist.

Lets be realistic here...with the Bullitt, you're not paying for the parts costs, you're paying for that exclusive serial number on the strut tower brace.

We may think its wasted because we are waiting on a more powerful engine.
Not everyone feels that way.

I agree, there are lots of non-S197 drivers out there who will be very happy with the 2010 with carry over powertrain. That said, I'm waiting for the new V8 and Grabber Blue!

I wonder if Ford realizes how many Grabber Blue with the new 5.0 they are going to have to make in 2011. I hope they order enough paint for all of us!

I agree! This color stands out so nice from a sea of ordinary colors without being too obnoxious. If they dont offer it in a Mach 1 or Boss pkg, I will have to make my own.

Really? Maybe you can break down that parts cost for us.

Yeah it definitely needs a Mach1 or Boss stripe package to calm it down a bit. The police would be all over me driving a grabber blue in SoCal. But its a risk I may have to take!

I don't have exact numbers on the parts, but think about it this way.
The parts that go into said car have to be created/tested/certified right?
Ford passes part of that on to the customer and they still have to make money.
Some of the parts may or may not have been in the system and created already (like the FRPP parts)

Lets say said package MSRP is 3000 dollar (nice round number)...maybe someone working at a dealership can look up the exact Bullitt package and then see what the Invoice pricing is on it)
So say the Invoice pricing is between 1700-2200 dollars.
That is at a price point that still gains Ford $ on the package + cover the cost of the parts.
Now depending on whether its a large quantity part or small..the price varies.
Wonder if you are still getting charged for the regular GT parts on your car with that package as well ???

Now compare them ordering 10-15,000 of them for the Bullitts and spare parts....
to the 2010 maybe using the same parts...and the R/D is already done, its off the shelf,
and you're making over 70,000+ a year of those parts, for possibly multiple years.
The cost is going to go down considerably.
And we'll never know the exact answer, unless your a ford bean counter.
Off the shelf is nowhere near what the manufacturing cost is. It's considerably lower

I'd venture to say that the parts themselves cost under 1000 bones.
**this is all just process, none of the numbers are real fact, just for sake of argument.

So let's say the parts cost $1000. Right there the GT is 1000k more than current model year. Ford isn't gonna sell it at cost, so there has to be a profit margin- maybe another 1k (at dealer invoice) and then tack a bit more on. So the 2010 is going to be at least 2k more than current MY. And that's not counting some items that used to be options but will now become standard- they aren't going to give those away either. So 3k at least will be the price increase.
