Will a resonator delete affect fuel economy?

Just got my Borla S-Types installed and am wanting to go ahead and do the deletes but am curious as to whether or not it might affect mpg.

Besides me getting a heavy foot to hear it roar

No. Resonators only reduce the exhaust volume. Pull them out and you'll have a more free flowing exhaust.

Does an X-Pipe accomplish the same thing as a resonator delete but you also get the x instead of factory H connection?

Nope lol. An X-pipe is a type of mid-pipe configuration designed for high rpm horsepower. An H-pipe is designed for low end torque. They sound different as well. An X-pipe is raspy and an H-pipe is throaty.

The only mod that would be the same as resonator deletes are aftermarket or GT500 OTA(over the axle) pipes.

I recommend you go to a performance shop that will cut out your resonators and weld in 3" piping, unless you want the cleanest look and can afford the OTA pipes. A resonator delete should cost about $60-$80.

Gotcha, thanks.

Think I will just get a muffler shop to cut out and weld some pipe in for now until I get the cash for a full setup from LTHs on back

No problemo amigo!

I edited my post, but I'll say it again. It should cost, at most, $80 for a reputable shop to remove them.

I did the resonator delete using GT500 OTA pipes and did not notice any reduction in fuel economy.

That's exactly what I paid. Go with 3" replacement pipe. MPG will not be affected.

Obligatory, in before someone else: Yes it will because you will drive harder since your car will sound better.

I think that would depend of your mufflers. I have no resonators on my car, and have GT500 mufflers on it. No drone at all. Am I crazy that I actually want a little drone? It's kinda hypnotic! haha

Eh, I've never liked flowmaster. I'm gonna put an O/R X-pipe with stainless works side burners and see how the GT500s sound. If they're not to my liking, I'm buying Corsa Extremes :P

Drone is in the ear of the beholder, in other words some people notice it some don't, unless its just blatant. Cutting out the resonators may or may not give you drone depending on your mufflers and your own personal hearing,
Unfortunately I hear that frequency range quite well and notice drone on my custom magna flow axle backs and am quite hesitant to add more by removing the resonators.
So you might be wise to have the muffler shop cut the resonators so they CAN be re installed again if the drone bothers you.

Just save for the catback. You're not going to get much volume removing the resonators, but take a look at our factory OTA pipes. They're terribly bent and pinched. Get the Lethal or GT500 or Borla OTA pipes if you want to do it right and actually help your exhaust flow. Then you can add an H or X to that.
