'69 fastbacks had a scoop at the hips (quarter panel).

Love the hips but lose the scoop. Personnally, I'd rather see a nice side scallop on the '09 Mustang rather than a side scoop.

My guess is that with Ford hemorrhaging red ink, the '09 Stang will likely be a modest warm over of the current one with core body stampings remaining the same. Hood, front fenders, front/rear facias would be the main differences along with trim and colors. I would expect the interior to be much of the same level, though perhaps a touch more with upgraded materials.

Unfortunately, this would put the Mustang at a distinct disadvantage to what will be the new Camaro and Challenger, not only in terms of aesthetics, but also in other areas, notably the suspension and perhaps motors.

Of course, I could be all wrong on this (hopefully), and Ford will step up to the plate and do a more extensive freshening of both sheet metal, interior and mechanicals. However, given Ford's past history and recent financial bloodlettings, I have more than a few doubts.

The scoops were removed in the 1970 model.

I can't take credit for the hood, it straight off the 05 concept, I just thought it fit really well.

Only the '69 Boss302s, they're still on the '69 Boss429.

so if they keep this design trend up....are we going to end up with another fox body in 15 years?

Not exactly, I doubt thay will follow that trend. But, if your theory is correct, let's hope that Ford doen't make another Mustang II. Not thatI don't like the body, its cool , but the engines stank.
So much for fuel Economy.

The '69 shelby mustang was not ugly (IMO), not even close, but I don't think it looked nearly as good as the 1968 and earlier. I'm not sure I want the 2009 to follow the 1968 to 1969 evolution???? I really don't see the point. I'd prefer ford keep building on the current look, but I'd prefer to see sharper more aggressive lines evolving from the current car rather than a re-interpretation of the 1969.

A '70 Boss 302 would be nice. The Shelby's had gotten a bit overdone by then, looking like giant cheese graters at the expense of the lithe, athletic roadracer look of the earlier versions.
