Why hadn't Ford done more advertising of its 2011 mustang
Back in 2010 my wife and I began looking at different sports cars. The three we were looking at was the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger. The price range we were willing to spend was around 24k. The only pony cars your getting for that price was a v6 model.
When we went to the Ford dealer only the 2010's were out that time. When comparing the 2010 v6 Camaro, Mustang and Challenger the Camaro was the best performance deal with 305 hp, duel exhaust compared to the stangs 220 hp, single exhaust. For the same price one got way more performance with the 10 Camaro compared to the 10 stang v6 model.
Nobody from Ford ever told us about the 2011 mustang getting a engine upgrade. Nobody ever mentioned anything about the upcoming 2011 mustang. We had no clue.
Why would Ford not want to promote and advertise like crazy this awesome, new stang coming out in 2011. We were all set to buy a Camaro in September 2010 when I just happened to catch a Mustang commercial saying the 2011 stang had 305 hp.
Say no more. On October 2, 2010 we bought our first mustang. 2011 v6 for 22,500 plus tax and tags. Why would Ford not want to promote this like crazy.
The previous v6 stangs were never taken serious to being a true pony car with respectable power. Ford changed that game when they created this awesome 2011 stang.
I wonder how many 2010 mustang buyers were pissed they bought a 10 when the 11 stangs had almost 100 more hp and 85 hp for v6 and true duel exhaust for the same price. All because they had no clue about the 11 stang. How many 10 buyers on this forum had no idea that the 11 Gt was getting 412 hp compared to your 315 hp 2010 Gt? How many people here paid 30 to 31k for a 10 Gt only to find out that the 11 v6 stang was just as fast for 7 to 8 grand less?

All I seen for 8 months before the new v8 and v6 came were ads and internet banners and car mags filled with info. When I bought my 2010 mustang GT the sales manager was laughing because he knew I would be in to buy a 5.0 in a year.

Me personally, if I would of bought a 10 Gt instead of a 11 Gt for the same price I would not be a happy camper with the 2010. Especially because the Gt was always the big dog and then here comes this new six that's just as powerful for thousands less.

well you see.. I have a sickness. I buy cars. to many cars.
I bought a grabber blue GT had it for a month or so then traded it in for a shelby gt. I had the shelby for about 7 months and then traded it in for a new fiesta(yea yea I know "a FIESTA!!??). I then traded that in for a 2012 5.0 prem.

I keep my cars until the wheels fall off, engine blows up or the car is not worth fixing. Lol

Maybe it's just me, but I always thought that the buyers of Mustang/Camaro/Challenger don't really need the TV to tell them what's coming up. 5 minutes on Autoblog.com daily will tell you more than any commercial.

With that in mind I can't help to wonder if the mustang fans knew about the upcoming 2011 stang then why would one want to buy a 2010 when you get some much more performance with the 11 for the same price.
Ford wasn't offering any great deals on the 10's. There were no unbelievable rebates or deals on the 2010's. In fact the dealership we bought our stang from had 2010 Gt's for more money than their 2011 Gt's. I was like why the heck would I pay 37k for a 2010 GT when I could of bought a 2011 Gt for the same price plus approximately 100 more hp.

I know Ford cut sales incentives to all of their sales employees and drastically jumped the pricing on the S197 sales platform from the 2009 through 2011. If you notice right now The Big 3 are touting fuel efficiency over Muscle and Performance. The horsepower wars are still in overdrive but that market is much much smaller in comparison to where it was and has been in the past 10, 20, 30, and 40 years. Do you remember the HP specs on the fox body platform? Ford touted a whopping 160 or so HP on the turboed SVO was something to brag home about!!!
As for people not being informed to sell you a better car, they probably weren't trained or given any info from home office until literally information hit the airwaves!!! I'll bet the same sales rep could have given you all of the info on a new V6 Fusion, a Hybrid or some other economical car compared to a boat with 6 cylinders that gets nowhere near the same gas mileage potential but has the same HP rating as my 07 GT. Cost and overhead will always answer to marks appeal and right now with gas still well over $3 a gallon where I am people want to take a stroll in the save a tree kind of cars, not the ones that are capable of doing wheels with enough HP and Torque.

Dealer's would have been wanting to get rid of the last of their 2010s, although I'd have hoped they would have mentioned the 2011 improvements if they felt you were about to buy a Camaro or Challenger instead.
The 2011 had been discussed at length here long before it hit the dealers, so enthusiast websites are definately the place to go to get the news before it happens.
At the end of the day, the 2010s were still great cars, albeit not as good value as the 2011s.

Or perhaps Ford didn't want the word out there too much because dealers would of been stuck with the 10's because majority of buyers would of held off for the 11's. Or Ford would of had to been offering 10 Gt 'sfor the price of a v6 and 10 v6's for 17 to 18k
If I could of gotten a brand new stang 2010 v6 for 17k I may of done that. But for 23 k plus I said why would I, not when I can get a 2011 for same price and 85 more hp and true dual exhaust . That's why I think majority of 10 buyers didn't know about the 11 performance upgrades.

Salespeople sell what they have, Tells people tell you what is coming eventually. Only one of them makes money and still has a job next month.
This scenario happens anytime anything is improved or replaced. Look at smartphones.

2011_kona_blue, you're right in that Ford doesn't do a ton of mass advertising for the Mustang. They concentrate instead on more targeted things like the car enthusiast websites and magazines. However, I do remember seeing that 305 HP/31 MPG commercial for the V6 a lot in late 2010/early 2011, so they did put some money towards it.

2010 was a strange year. I bought a challenger 376hp r/t after comparing the 315hp mustang and butt-ugly camaro. Who knew Ford would add 100hp to the stang the next year? Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I do not believe I know of one car maker that improved their hp numbers by almost 100 in one year in the history of automobiles. The 2011/2012 mustang is impossible to ignore. It's really a unique phenomenon.
