I don't quite understand why, as pretty much all of the 1st generation models had hips throughout 65-73, and yet none of their rear quarter panels looked like kids with chubby cheeks.

I don't get it either? But technically Rocky, the 71-73's kinda lost their hips. But the 64 1/2 -70 All Had Hips, with the 69/70's having the biggest most curvaceous hips in the Mustang's History. Even bigger and more pronounced than the 2010's. I seem to remember that when the 05's came out that was the Biggest Complaint about them, that Ford forgot the Hips. My, how fickle people are.

Has to do with the quarter windows. The others don't have them, therefore, the hips look fine on those.
Again, it's my opinion, but with the window positioned where it is... it looks like a chubby kid. Squinting a little. Esp. when viewed like the pic above, with the squinting tail lamp.
That's it. The whole car is squinting on the outside. Like it's too bright outdoors.
Again, just what I see. And perception... etc.

Houtex, I think you've picked up on another thing I had thought about when I was thinking about that "Theme" thread I posted. While everyone that disliked the tail lights, was talking about not liking the way the tail lights Tapered toward their outer edge.
I noticed from a rear 3/4 view that the tail lights also had a similar trapezoid shape to the quarter windows, which got me thinking. So I looked around and noticed that was another theme the designers had used. In the shape of the headlights, tail lights, and side view mirrors, all which I'm thinking may have come from the trapezoid shape of the quarter window.

You beat me to it ZZCoop I was compiling pic's for comparison. Houtex, You were correct about the 69-70's I posted do not having the Trapezoid shaped quarter windows, but the 64 1/2 -68's all had hips with the trapezoid shaped vents, and the 65-66 Shelby's replaced those vents with quarter windows for better visibility. Which is where the 05 got it's trapezoid shaped quarter windows. Which carried over to the 2010 with it's hips.
Quite honestly these 2 pictures of the 2010 remind me a lot of the 67-68's.

I still don't understand where your coming from, as the 05-09 and 2010's have the very same triangular windows as the 65 Shelby GT350.
Only the 69-70 and 71-73 sportsroof models, had 1/4 windows.

Where as none of the post 1st generation Mustangs, had hips to them at all. That is until the 2010 came along

This represents the beltline change from the 05-09 to the 2010. The beltline on the 2010 now drops then turns up at the rear of the door. The quarter panel "hip" is now broader and dips down as it meets the top of the door.

The new dash shape is simply an evolution of the Mustang's trademark twin cowl design harking all the way back to the original 64 1/2. However I still believe the shape of the Aluminum trim inspired the shape of the taillight and trunk center section. As I posted in my thread, "I Don't Know If Anyone Noticed"

Take a break. The Mustang isn't going anywhere.

I know it's not going anywhere, it hasn't for the last 45 years, and this is one great looking car. I'm not worried one bit.

i cant believe we are still on the subject of who will or will not like this car, how about some updates on the vehicle instead of the neverending list of people asking who will or will not like this car.
How about starting a thread on "Who will or will not try to make this a more amazing car then it already is or continue to ask people who will or will not like it cause i wanna find something that gets my panties in a bunch cause i like it like that, plus a big shout out to all my homies"
