If they're droppin' too much, go past em - If you have to creep up on them, get by fast.
If they creep up on you, grab the middle lane (if possible) and when they pass, move to the far lane and give them lots of room away from you.
A semi behind one of those trucks = really bad - those rocks will become projectiles - stay far, far, away.
Note: As far as the law in concerned, those trucks are responsible for securing their loads as you are responsible for maintaining a safe distance. If your ride gets dinged and push comes to shove, it would likely become a he said she said scenario should you pursue damages . I recommend mounting a camera with your cell phone (apps are usually cheap) so there's no dispute it came from said truck.

This is why I try to stay away from Highways that have Trucks on them as much as possible (I take Parkways where I can). When I see a dump truck or waste truck I try to get around as quick as possible or use other cars as shields. A lot of times they will put a tarp over the bed contents but they don't clean off the axle that ends up with debris all on top of it.. I think the worst truck by far is the road trucks with tar and rocks..

That sucks, glad it didn't cause more damage. Would definitly recommend you clean, prime and paint any newly exposed metal.
At least it isn't visable. My entire front bumper and front part of the hood were trashed last month when I was following a truck that hit some gravel. Pic is a small area that was damaged.
Total suckage.

you may likely find a nice kona takeoff front bumper for like $250 shipped from fleabay. I just got a great black one a couple of weeks ago. Roush is also selling painted roush fascias pretty cheap on fleabay as well.

****, sorry to see that man. Could be worse... my pony is in the shop for $4,000 in undercarriage damages right now because some clown dropped a semi-truck wheel chock in the highway. Best of luck, I know it sucks!

I remember driving in downtown Seattle. I was In my 2000 S281 following my mother who was driving my Grand Cherokee. (Aka my Alaska fish wagon.) The traffic was pretty aggressive and moving fast to begin with but suddenly came to a dead stop! The truck a few cars ahead of us was obviously someone moving their household because they were hauling everything but the kitchen sink.
Long story short: as the truck spilled out dressers, metal bed frames and books out of its truck bed... I prayed that I would hit throw pillows... meanwhile I see a car hit the dresser head on. My mom did a great job of bouncing some fisher price toys off the Jeep. TRUE STORY: of all the things I could hit, I managed to hit a four foot wide white Easter basket full of plastic eggs. Hundreds of little colored eggs pelted my windshield and hood like a colorful rain storm....
With no time to stop an see the damage, we headed to the airport to pick up my father. The minute I pulled up, he wasvalready outside waiting. he looked down at the front of the car and said "did you hit something?"
Years later, I laugh about it. No surprise either that the Easter bunny has not visited me since.
