Whistling Sound From Bad Tint Job?
Whistling Sound From Bad Tint Job?
Hi,
When I'm driving with the windows up and radio/AC off, I can hear a slight whistling sound.
At first, I thought it might be the drivetrain, but I noticed that it becomes less noticeable the slower I go. The RPM isn't a factor as far as I can gather. I drove in 5th gear at 1k RPM and the sound was still there, same as in neutral. But I can say that there is a direct relationship between the volume of the sound and the speed, as it becomes silent when my car is stopped.
I'm assuming it's wind noise. I got my windows tinted last Saturday and I only noticed it this week. Is it possible that the tint job could have something to do with it??
Thanks.

Maybe need to reset the auto window drop for when the door is opened, they would have had to have the windows fully up and the door open when they installed the tint and that would have upset that setting.
Just googled it. A few results of others experiencing the same thing and, to no surprise, all the tint shops feigning ignorance.
Apparently, this isn't a common problem. Why do all these uncommon bad things happen to me

How do I go about doing that? I'll check in the manual
PM Argetni. I think he is the 2011 Mustang noise and shimmy expert. LOL
Seriously, probably the window reset is the fix. I think you hold the switch down for X seconds then hold it in the up position for X seconds. I remember seeing it in the manual somewhere.

Yeah, instructions in the manual. As above, run window down all the way and hold switch in down position for a time, then same in up position. Don't remember for sure but it is something like that.

Thanks! I will give it a try
I will probably have to do it again later as the tint STILL looks wavy after a week so I'm going to have the shop fix that

I had numerous vehicles in which I had the windows tinted, but I had never any problems, especially after a week. I think the tint guy needs to redo your windows for free! Sounds like a newbie on the job?
To reset the window bring it all the way down and hold for about 3 to 5 seconds and then bring it all of the way back up and hold it for about 3 to 5 seconds. That will reset it. When they tint your windows they have to push the latch by hand to deactivate the drop while there working.
Also did you roll down your windows in the first 24 hours after having the tint applied? That could be the reason behind the waves in the film. Either way , after a week the tint will look as good as it is going to.

Some shops take the windows out completely and put them on a bench to do the tint. This is labor intensive, but it makes for a better tint job that does not curl inside the door. If you do not install them right and misalign the adjustable window tracks in the door it will keep the window from sealing up against your weatherstripping.
I doubt that they went to that extreme as nowadays everyone does things the fastest way possible, but if the electrical reset does not fix it, then you are gonna have to pull your inner door panel and adjust the tracks mechanically to make the top of the glass tilt in a little more.
This adjustment could have gotten misaligned when they are putting pressure on the glass as they work out the air bubbles as well, so just because they did not remove the window does not mean anything.
