When will Ford finally let someone other than a Ford employee drive a 2011 Mustang? V6 or GT or GT500.

 

I really don't have a clue but I thought I'd get this thread moving . . . I voted "before March 15" because they usually get pre-production cars to test, and production is supposed to start on March 15

 

dumb question but dealerships actually let u test drive GT500s? O_o

 

Usually MT gets their hands on the first one, so i say right now they are already testing the car for the April issue which should come out early March. That's what i'm hoping anyways.

True, but he's not performance testing the car(Slalom, 0-60, Skidpad, 1/4 mile, etc)

 

Anyone knows what security lighting package option they used for that Mustang pace car at the Daytona ? It looked really cool, especially after dawn.

 

I'm dying for some new info. I think it's been about a month now since I've seen any new info of interest. I haven't even sat in a new Mustang (or any Mustang, for that matter) since 2000. Really looking forward to it. Maybe I should pay the local dealer a visit so I can at least check out what the interior will be like.

it varies dealer to dealer. My dealership that I work at, the policy is no since if we get a GT500 it's usually already spoken for or for stock on the showroom floor

 

I'll bet right around 3/15, people outside of the industry might get to see some. All I'm gonna say about that.

 

I have never heard of a dealer allowing a test drive of a GT500. Most want total agreement on the transaction with a caveat of the test drive meeting their expectations.

 

Eh, depends on your relationship with the dealer. We've bought 30+ cars from our local dealer between my extended family. They offered me a TD of their remaining 09 GT500s last summer and I declined, knowing those cars were well beyond my limits. I was scared enough driving the 2010 GT, but did fine. But then again, I unlike most 22 year old gearheads, respect the car and know my limits. That is exactly what a salesperson wants to hear before they hand you the keys to a 500hp car.

I haven't driven a powerful car in 10 years. Been driving a 4-cyl Jeep Wrangler for a long time. It's going to be quite some time after I start driving the 2011 GT before I push it any. I have to work my way back into it.

 

the ford dealer down the street from me had no prob handing me keys to the 2008 KR lol. probably because they were so desperate to sell it. also drove a 40th anniversary gt500

Speaking of, I did see a 2011 GT500 with the SVTPP on my way into work today. The smaller stripes on red/white looked better in person than I expected. RR is a gorgeous color as well.

 

Evan Smith at MM&FF magazine already has. Ford let him make a few dozen 1/4 mile passes in some 2011's a couple months ago, but wouldn't let him publish ET's and such yet.

 

Did he give any impressions of the car Brian?

 

I believe it was in the Jan issue. He basically said something wicked, this way comes....
