When Will First 2011 Test Drive Be?
It's just irritating that there are first drives for the Kia rice burner (nothing against foreign cars used to own a mitsubishi Eclipse Gt and the pos hyundai) and other 2011's......I am just not a patient person when we have been waiting for awhile for this, but I guess waiting longer wouldn't matter either....
2 weeks....

Additionally, in two week's time, we'll also bring you the first drive of the latest 2011 Ford Mustang, including the return of the 5.0 Mustang.

I would think it would be a bigger and better celebration with thousands of 2011 Mustangs privately owned and on the road so the public will be able to see the 'product' for themselves. Just my opinion.
Well here we go!!!!!!!!!!!

yes, but, the proof will be in the 1/4 mile times .. . the 2010 GT was only a few tenths behind the SS with over 100 less horses, so it should be out in front now . . . in fact I bet the new V6 Mustang will be pretty close to the SS . . . we'll see, what fun!
woah woah, new V6 close to the SS? High 12s for the SS vs what, high 13s AT BEST for the new V6?
I'm sure they could have done that but it would have required more expensive components and would have made the car more expensive. And no matter how powerful your engine is, there's always somebody who has more. I've read that the Dodge Challenger is going to have a larger Hemi motor in 2011, so even if the Mustang GT matched the Camaro SS in horsepower and torque it would still be outgunned when the 2011 Challenger SRT8 comes out.
Plus you have to take account for the HP ratio to weight of the car. They need this much HP to achieve the same times as the Mustang because of the weight of the car. The thing that may worry most is how much HP is left in this engine after you here how well this car already breathes. Exhaust/ CAI/ Tune may add nothing as it already does this well and already tuned for 91 octane.
There is always something left in them, some concessions the engineers had to make to NVH or fuel economy or emissions or something like that, something we hotrodders won't be concerned with.
And the weight advantage the Mustang has will always make it easier to go faster than the others.

the 2010 GT is only a few tenths behind the SS, and the 2011 V6 is lighter and close to the same HP as the 2010 GT (less torque, yes that is true) . . . so I don't think it will be beating the SS in a straight line, but I doubt it will be very far behind . . . and on a track with corners it has a good chance of being in front . . . next year's Car and Driver "Lightning Lap" should be very interesting
I'm going way out on a limb to say that I think the new GT will leave the new Chally in its dust . . . yes the Chally makes more HP/Torque, but it's big and heavy . . . it might catch up by around 150 MPH but maybe not . . . what a great time to be into this stuff!

The message I was responding to wasn't talking about acceleration figures, simply horsepower and torque figures. That was what I was referring to by saying "outgunned". I agree with your point though, the Mustang's weight advantage makes up for a lot in the duel between it and the Challenger.
