Good point. You don't think they'll come with PS2's do you?

No, Ford is too cheap!

The SVT PP has the F1 Supercar "G2" tires which seems to be awesome.

Such a shame too, those really seem to be the ticket. I don't know much about the GY F1 supercar tires, but I'd also think they could go with a set of PZero Rosso's like some of the Italians typically use.

Tires don't matter to guys that drag race both respective cars. How many Mustangs do you see at the track with true street tires?

The new GY make the biggest difference in balance and handling. I'd expect the 2011 to be more neutral than the 2010 due to tires and the reduced mass up front.

To reflect some of the comments here, perhaps its best to steer away from the simple and usual expedient of larding on "more" and, rather, add less, specifically weight.

I'd keep the graphics very simple, avoiding the usual SE clown show of useless jewelery and baubles. Instead, make this a serious performance car, not a boulevard beauty queen. Keep the focus, resources and effort on stuff that will make it faster, not flashier (save that for a Mach I or something).

Basically, add 50-100 lbs LESS weight. Presumably the usual expedients of taking out heavy items and insulation and replacing steel bits with aluminum or even CF in some instances (instead of a black painted hood, how about a clear finished CF one?). Add lightweight wheels, manual Recaro seats and no sunroof/moonroof.

Firm up the suspension a bit more -- stiffer shocks, springs and bushings, but keep some compliance and focus on excellent tuning and real world performance than hero test track numbers.

Make the Brembos standard.

As for the motor, perhaps a good way to introduce DI to the 5.0. At the very least, do a significant upgrade (hotter cams, tuning, intake and exhaust manifolds/systems) with perhaps additional cooling (oil, water) capacity for extended track running in August. Perhaps some HD internal bits too (rods, bearings, etc.). A good, round 450hp or so would be good. Maybe a short throw shifter and HD clutch and perhaps tighter gear ratios.

Obviously no one will use the street tires to drag race. However magazines test using the stock tires and magazine 1/4 mile times are the be all end all for a lot here =)

Lower it a little.
Brembo brakes standard.
Forged connecting rods.
Increase the redline and horsepower.
Wider wheels and summer only tires.
Recalibrated power steering.
Manual transmission only.
Remove the rear seat to save weight.
Figure out where they can save the most weight with the fewest dollars.
Same airdam and stripes as the Boss 302R race car.

When you say next gen you mean 2014MY, not a Boss, right? By "features" do you mean electronics goodies or drive train related?

Remove the sound deadening. ~15lbs
A/C delete an option - that's got to be worth over 50lbs alone.
Manual Recaro seats - 30-50lbs
6-gauge cluster, IUP steering wheel, but no Shaker system - 20lbs (amps and speakers)
SHR lexan quarter windows - 3-5 lbs

Anything else?

I thought the topic was what could Ford do to make the Boss as good as it can be.

I like delete options, get rid of what isn't needed. What's wrong with that? They could be listening, who knows?

It's not a 6.2 and its not a blower.

I don't want to get into the feature...
but its one of those things that if it IS on the car, you might think...that's kinda cool.
If it doesn't, you wouldn't miss it.

What about the saleen/PJ project back in 07... Wasn't named "Boss" but was clearly an homage to...
Anyone think some components should definitely stay around?

As per the MotorTrend article: "The nostalgic touches consist of black side and hood stripes, the latter framing a functional "shaker" hood; a black decklid, rear spoiler, and louvered rear window cover; and 19-inch Minilite-inspired alloy wheels. Of course, all the powertrain and chassis goodies are there, too, including a 3.73:1 rearend, a Tremec five-speed manual, specially calibrated Saleen N2 dampers and linear-rate coil springs, a Watts Linkage on the live rear axle, 14-inch slotted front brake discs with four-piston calipers, and the requisite 302-cubic-inch, 24-valve Ford modular V-8 replete with forged-aluminum pistons and forged-steel connecting rods and crankshaft."

1. Watts Link w/ a more agressively tunes suspension
2. Brembos Standard
3. Wider more agressive tires on forged wheels
4. Better Seats (Recaros)
5. Lighter weight (50-75 lbs lighter)
6. Aerodynamic upgrades including front brake ducts
